Maybe not the MOST but she is definately on the list! She wasn't really underrated at the time, but compared to say Katharine Hepburn or Cary Grant(Everyone knows who they are even today!) definately! You say Myrna Loy today and hardly any one knows what youre talking about. She's on my family tree though, hehe. Yes, I have Myrna blood in me!

Yes, Myrna Loy is the most underrated actress. People talk more and know more about Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Norma Shearer, Marlene Dietrich, Jean Harlow, Clara Bow, Mae West. Myrna Loy was voted the queen of films or Hollywood by the fans of the world, that says a lot, she beat out Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo. She was such a likable actress, you just have to watch her. Along with Myrna Loy- Constance Bennett, Nancy Carroll, Ann Sheridan, Kay Francis, Joan Blondell, Barbara Stanwyck, Ruby Keeler, Verree Teasdale, Nina Mae McKinney, Fredi Washington are very underrated. Just because they didn't live a scandalous life or sleep around. Joan Crawford and them are remembered more for their personal live, then their career. People love to write and read about their sinful life. That's the reason why their remembered. People need to watch her, especially todays' young ones- so they can learn what sexiness is but leaving something to the imagination. Anyone who wants to be an actress or actor needs to be straped to a seat and forced to watch and learn from the Classic Hollywood.

She has quite a large group of fans now and I think she did back in the day as well, since she was referred to as the Queen of Hollywood. However, if we're talking about the Academy Awards here, then yes I would definitely say she was overlooked by the Motion Picture Academy. Ideally there would have been a tie in 1934 between Bette Davis (OF HUMAN BONDAGE) and Myrna Loy (THE THIN MAN). I probably would have given the Oscar to Loy again in 1946 for THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES, and she should have received additional nominations for THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY-SOXER and MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE.

She was a terrific actress who had something inside her that guided her acting. She just made acting look so easy. That's probably why she wasn't offered any statues by the Academy, but her large fanbase will last for a long time yet.

Absolutely. Myrna Loy tends to be overlooked because she was so understated and naturalistic. Unlike other acclaimed actresses like Bette Davis (whom I love), her acting never calls attention to itself, yet it always seemed effortless and utterly believable. She's one of the wittiest, most intelligent, AND most beautiful women to come out of Old Hollywood.

I don't think she's underrated exactly, but unfortunately, like so many other GREAT actors & actresses from Hollywood's Golden Era she is largely forgotten by today's public. She is far & away one of my favourite actresses. I have never seen her give a bad performance (how many performers can you say that about?), even in a film like "The Mask of Fu Manchu" where she is playing Boris Karloff's nymphomaniac daughter (she's positively wild in is - check it out if you can)!

Oh yes, Myrna Loy is definitely one of the most underappreciated actresses ever! I hear plenty who like her. She is rated very well with them and me too. But you cannot say enough good things about this great actress, who does fantastically in comedies, dramas, everything she's ever in!

Oh, I just love her!
She was and still is underrated. She didn't get the credit she deserved. I felt like her co-stars, Spencer Tracy and of course William Powell and Clark Gable got the most attention from their movies. She is class-act.
At a young age I am wrapped in her pefromances. I don't want to put my age because of future posts but I'am young; although, not a child. -

The only reason her male co-stars dominated her movies was because she wanted it that way. She stated so in her autobiography. It's a pity, since she was a marvelous actress, but I guess she liked being the understated, supportive actress.
