Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.
I know, I know, except for the Britishness, and the current age, and the whole Monty Python thing.
Other than that, I have always pictured Mr. Palin with short-cropped hair and an Iron Cross at his neck, playing in the (nonexistent) ultimate tribute film to the ultimate soldiers' general.
Just sayin'. Get Jrgen Prochnow some dialogue to overdub, and there you have it.

My first impulse was to scoff, but upon looking closely at an image of the Desert Fox, I find myself agreeing with you. I can see a resemblance, especially around the eyes.
My dream role for Mr. Palin is to see him as a character i16d0n a Charles Dickens film adaptation, such as Mr. Micawber or Mr. Dick.

it's amazing what one can discover when one forgoes that snap judgement and actually listens to people

He might actually pull that role off; I think he's a much better dramatic actor than people give him credit for.

It's the miracle of the interwebnetz: you can sh!t on someone from the safety of a dimly-lit room in a basement, whereas in real life you'd never get away with such talk in face-to-face conversation.
Unless you're talking about 9/11 troofers - they don't count. You can snap judge them all you want.
Did you happen to watch any of "Around the World in 80 Days"? Brilliant the man is deep.
Again, I wab68s just waxing psychotic about Palin playing Rommel, simply based on abstract looklikedness. But it would be cool to finally have a modern, realistic film about the Desert Fox.
