Having discovered Michael's awesomeness fairly recently, I was thinking about him and his career and how it paralelled Bill Murray's character in Lost in Translation. Michael would have been perfect for that part! It could have been his big break. How could Sofia pass him up, especially after working together on the Virgin Suicides? Though Bill's performance is good, his career is already well established. But then I thought again, that since the movie is supposed to5b4 be somewhat auto-biographical, BM character could have been Michael himself!
Am I the only one who feels Michael Pare is perfect for this part? -

I agree 100 per cent with you, since i've watched "Lost in Translation" in theaters that i think Sofia Coppola's wrote the character for Par (who was amazing in her first film "Virgin Suicides"), but somewhat along the way the producers wanted a well-known established actor like Murray. It was a shame, because that role was tailor made for Michael Par and he would had resurrected his career and maybe got an Academy Award Nomination. Most people don't know, but Michael Par, like other 80's anti-heroes such as Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts or Rutger Hauer are pretty big in Japan and they did plenty of TV commercials there.
Michael Par is a great, underrated & underused leading man that was blackballed in Hollywood because he was too cool for school.
