When a performance sweeps the award season like Christopher Plummers performance swept Best Supporting Actor last year, that film automatically is transferred to my list even if I have little interest in seeing it for the movies sake. Plummer does supply some truth into the film through his role, but isnt enough to make the movie work. It just didnt have a spark with me. Some of it is interesting, seeing the tragedies of an elderly homosexual man, in particular. But those interesting moments are little and too far in between. Theres not enough here for me invest my time in it to care about the characters. Its not poorly made, Beginners is stale to be perfectly honest. Unless you are a hardcore fan of one of the three lead actors, its not worth your patience.

I agree. Plummer was fabulous, and I really liked the scenes between him and Ewan MacGregor, who also was great. The rest of it, particularly MacGregor's interaction with the girlfriend, just had nothing to offer. I'd have loved to see more of a focus on the father/son relationship.

He won because he's veteran actor who has proven time and again that he's Oscar worthy. I'm glad that he got the award.
