I sincerely hope Randy Quaid has not retired. It looks like he crashed and has been off the radar but that happens to a lot of actors. I have always enjoyed his off beat performances and also his comedy and drama. I hope he is getting it pulled together because he has a lot of fans who like him. His brother Dennis Quaid was in a slump for awhile but appears to have recovered and is progressing in his career, although in TV, and I really like Vegas. I hope Randy can get back on his feet. Fans are pretty forgiving so I hope he gets another chance. Maybe he can make an appearance on Vegas as a heavy, not as a relative of Dennis Quaid, but maybe an "associate" of Michael Chiklis. That would be some imaginative casting. Best Wishes Randy, we miss you.

It just means he's not allowed to act in an Equity production. Equity governs union stage productions only (theatre). In terms of film acting, it depends what his status is with SAG/AFTRA (the actor's union which governs film & TV).
Regardless of his off screen antics, he sure is a talented and larger than life character actor, with many memorable performances. -

Yes, around 90 films, many of them A-list productions. Also nominated for Emmys, Golden Globes, Oscars, BAFTAs, and won quite a few awards as well. This SUX too bad he couldn't keep it together! -

And also the fact that he and his wife were like arrested for burglary and fled to Canada and, as far as I know, are still there, essentially under Asylum. He will never appear in another movie again as long as he doesn't answer to his charges, unless a movie is produced over in Canada for him to act in. But until something like that materializes, Randy Quaid is no more.
Nobody on the IMDB likes anything anywhere at anytime. -

We'll whatever kind of insanity has befallen him, I hope he gets better soon. Nobody alive today in Hollywood can play a Redneck (Eddie Johnson from National Lampoon's and Russell Casse from ID4) better than Randy did in his prime.

Agreed. I remember a few years ago Michael Moriarity dropped out like that for awhile due to overwhelming issues and was even going to start a political party, easier in Canada than here in the USA unfortunately, but after awhile he has began to get active again. Maybe Randy will get his issues resolved and rejoin the business. It sounds like he and his wife have some anger management issues so maybe they and Alec Baldwin should get together and find the best counseling money can buy. It looks like Mel Gibson has his issues managed and he almost lost his career. If Randy sees this, we can only hope that he knows we are still here and hoping for his quick recovery and return. Take care of yourself Randy.

I am afraid you are right. If a performer becomes uninsurable or gets a reputation of being very difficult to work with it can do severe damage to a career.
I remember the guy who played Roscoe on Dukes of Hazard had had severe heart trouble and almost did not get the part because of insurance issues. Clint Eastwood posted bond for him so he could be insured. They had worked together on Rawhide years earlier and I suppose had kept in touch.
If he wants to come back he will have to eat a lot of crow and do mea culpa to a lot of people to get back in the business. Whether one likes him or not, it took Mel Gibson a long time to get back in business and I am sure he has to walk the straight and narrow and keep his name out of the papers. Redemption is always possible. -

Who would hire him? He is uninsurable at the very least.
I agree. With all of his legal problems, uncertain refugee status, being actually banned from Equity, and unknown mental status (and a crazy wife to boot), I don't think that anyone would want to hire him on either side of the border. There are plenty of talented, stable actors they can hire. Perhaps not as, um,
unique
as Randy, but perfectly fine actors.
