She doesn't die in ALL her movies. Just the ones you've seen. I know she dies in Hope Floats, however, she does not die in Skeleton Key, Playing by Heart, Tempest or Something to Talk About. I think that she is drawn to parts that she can relate to and if they happen to die, well - so be it

She doesn't die in the Cassavetes movies, A Woman Under The Influence, Opening Night, Gloria, Love Streams etc. Cassavetes usually showed characters surviving and trying to make the best da0of life.

Gena Rowland's character dies in Crazy in Love(1992), Paulie (1998), and The Notebook (2004), the only movies in which she acted that I can recall seeing. I was starting to wonder about this issue myself.

She also dies in "Taking Lives," thanks to Ethan Hawke. Possibly my least-favorite film of hers.
Sadly, it seems to be the fate of actresses (and actors) of "a certain age" to be killed off in their films.

She commits suicide in "Machine Gun McCain" by shooting herself in the head when the mobsters threaten to torture her. Goofy scene.
