Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Devon Sawa

Minus the dying part, I always thought Devon Sawa was on the track to become the next big star.

Well one b68difference was that Phoenix could really act. Devon was a cute boy, probably cuter then River as a teen, but not as great an actor. River was one of the best actors playing a teen I have seen in a long time. Hollywood would not hesitate to use an actor no matter what reason if he is a hard working good actor. Boys always have trouble adjusting to playing men. Both actors when boys were popular because of their youthful looks, they could play a younger boy. As they aged their youthfulness may work against them.River never had many roles playing an adult. Too bad I feel he could have been one of the best around after a while.

Yes, pretty much. Except for the whole ugly thing and the way he thinks acting involves walking around with your mouth hanging open for 80% of a movie, he and River Phoenix are almost twins.

Well, see, the issue is the intelligence of the OP. Should HAVE/would HAVE, beep

haha Your statement doesn't even make any sense. At least in his youth he was a fine actor. I haven't seen him in anything lately to make a judgment call.
So what exactly does my "intelligence" have to do with anything? Where does it fit in?

It's spelled should've and could've, as they are contracted forms of should have and could have. I'm tired of people replacing it with "of." "Of been" makes no grammatical sense whatsoever. It's "have been" guys.

Are you a correction Nazi to people from other countries too? You honestly get so caught up in grammar that you can't get the point of the OP? Seriously, that looks down on YOU, not the OP. Epic fail trying to look intelligent and ending up looking anal retentive.

If someone is from another country and/or English in not their first language I would think they would like the correction as it would allow them to expand their knowledge and grasp of the language. I'm sick of people being fine with mediocrity. Yes, this is "just a message board" but that is no excuse. If you know the correct grammar then it should come out naturally and be used regardless of where you are writing. There is no point to "dumbing it down" on the internet.
I think River and Devon have very little in common, both professionally and personally.

Wow you sound obnoxious. Step back people who are E.S.L. and are mentally handicapped use the internet too. Spelling is not the be all and end all.

I agree but this isn't just a spelling/grammar error, it's language illiteracy. saying could of and should of instead of could have or should have makes you sound retarded.

Yeah he could have. Anyways now all the young actors seem to look up to leo dicaprio.. Efron even that kid from 1 direction. The young ones today really look up to leo. So its not really River Phoenix anymore.. its leo where all the comparisons are made. So happy leo is such a succees story 🙂 Devon needs to step his game up 😞

I agree, candace. Leonardo Dicaprio has made the leap from child actor to adult actor flawlessly. He's been great in all stages of his life.
I am you and what I see is me.

I think I just lost some brain cells. Just so you know, this post doesn't interest me in the slightest. However, I feel compelled to comment on your appalling grammar.
Your headline should in fact read 'should HAVE / could HAVE been the next River Phoenix'. Using 'of' after should or would is just wrong.

don't see him being the next huge star ever.

except one can act, the other couldn't act his way out of a paper sack. truly astonishing how he could be cast as a lead in many films. he's like a sucky anthony michal hall with even less eyebrow
