How did you become a fan of Rod?

I probably go back farther than you guys. I first became a fan as a kid of 7 when I saw him in his one-season TV show
Hong Kong
. It only ran from 1960-1961 but I always liked it, and as roving reporter "Glen Evans" Rod was especially great in it.
I saw it again in reruns in the mid-70s but never since. Too bad it'll probably never see the light of day on DVD.
I replied to you on your "favorite films" thread, Maddy. You'll find a number of Rod's films people have listed there that are worth seeing if you haven't already. I also wrote a separate post on that thread giving my top seven. -

That sounds interesting. It's a shame that some of the older series aren't available on DVD or shown again on TV.

I've had a crush on him since The Time Machine was first released. I was a kid and have loved him since. I'm certain the only reason I watch it (and the Birds, and a few others) as often as I do is just to see him.
I met his daughter Felicia Taylor at an industry event about 10 years ago and I blurted out "I LOVE YOUR FATHER" right in front of my husband, who thought it was prett111cy funny.
another true movie star, and class act.
Rest in peace, dearest Rod.

He was a wonderful actor but he was gorgeous too, always a treat to gaze at for a few hours

. Not only was he 25 at the time it was filmed, but there are some explicit scenes and comments in the movie pertaining to his "hunk" appeal!

was my second exposure to Rod Taylor, a year or two after first becoming aware of him on
Hong Kong
.
So please don't pay attention to that terrible comment of Naterdawg about
World Without End
! It's anything but "atrocious". It's medium-budget and not up to some people's sci-fi snuff these days, but it's a very neat little film. Everything is personal taste, of course, but the film got good reviews.
Per Naterdawg's other comment I suppose in a way you could call
Hotel
"soapy" but then you could say that about a lot of films. Personally I wouldn't describe the film that way at all, though it has a few such elements to it. -

One Sunday afternoon with The Birds. I was maybe 8 or so. Watch The Time Machine faithfully every New Years Eve.

The first adult movie I ever saw (I was 5 years old at the time) was
The Birds
. Even as a little kid I was impressed by Mr. Taylor's handsomeness and
charisma. My second celebrity crush was born (my first was Fess Parker from the
Daniel Boone
TV show, but I only have vague memories of that one, being just a toddler at the time). I just wish he'd done a lot more work in films. R.I.P.

Saw Time Machine in summer school on a big screen in the cafeteria when I was 11 years old. I was very impressed with it. Later saw The Birds on TV and thought it was pretty good though creepy. Don't remember seeing any of his other movies.
I was just watching Time Machine last week to go to sleep. Still one of my favorites. RIP Rod. -

As with most kids, we were all introduced to him through
101 Dalmatians
without even knowing it. I was about 10 when I became a fan after seeing him in The Twilight Zone episode
And When the Sky Was Opened
. Great episode forever burned 5b4into my brain. After seeing
The Time Machine
I knew he was a terrific actor and wanted to see more of his works. Never a dull performance, I look forward to seeing him in more films, even though knowing he has passed will forever linger while watching them.

I haven't used imbd message boards in over a year, and I am back to just write about Rod Taylor.
Anyway, sadly I didn't know anything about him until he passed away earlier this year. I'd seen The Birds and 101 Dalmatians, but I had no idea he was in either of them.
Then I saw that he was in some Doris Day movies and I knew I just had watch them. Glass bottom Boat is amazing. -

for me back in the mid-'70s. I don't recall ever hearing of him before that, but his performance in the Hitchcock film sold me on him for good. Now that I think about it, it was the first time, with the exception of Suzanne Pleshette (I'm pretty sure I saw her on
The Bob Newhart Show
by then), that I ever saw any of the major stars from the film, as well as being my first Hitchcock film (though I saw his old show before that).
