Diane Wiest is an amazing and highly underrated actress. Her episodes in In Treatment (a great series) are absolutely captivating. And the gravity of her performance in Synecdoche, New York helped to anchor the film's more esoteric elements. She's always been good and has just gotten better with age. What do you reckon?
By the way, check out my review of Synecdoche, New York and don't forget to leave a comment:

She is a wonderful actress, but hardly "under rated"..she has two Oscars (for two Woody Allen mvies, 'Bullets over Broadway," and "Hannah and her Sisters.") She won last year's Emmy for 'Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Dramatic series," and was nominated again this year.
What amazed me about this year's Emmy nominees (nothing that I have ever paid attention to in the past), is the number of 'Movie Stars' who are now in TV roles.
I knew that Glenn Close was in a show called "Damages" and would like to see a few episodes, also that 'Grey's Anatomy' is another one of the more highly-regarded shows (yes I know who Katherine Heigl is).and that a show called "In Treatment" stars both Dianne Wiest and Hope Davis and also that Holly Hunter has been nominated for a show called "Saving Grace."
The only show I watch is '24' and of course the great Cherry Jones is up for the Emmy for her role as "President Taylor". So this year, Dianne Wiest should just allow the new girl on the block, Cherry Jones, to win this category. It's the right thing to do. -

I admit that I think all of the actors on In Treatment are excellent but this actress blows me away with her portrayal. I just love watching her and I do think that she is underrated as said on another thread.

She really is. I'm a huge fan of her movies, but I feel Dianne exceeded all her performances with this show. 9 times out of 10 (or 4 out of 5), she and Paul's session is my favorite episode of the week. Gina's blowup that Paul instigated in Season Two: Week Six is an all time favorite of mine. Truly a masterful performance that still remains one of the best before it became extremely popular for film actors/actresses to be in TV series. I haven't seen season three yet, but I know I will watch Paul and Gina's sessions even if I dislike/skip all the other patients (which I did with Oliver in season two.)

I noticed that when I started the third season. Amy Ryan isn't a bad substitute, but no one beats Gina. The way they went with dealing with Gina in the third season was great though. Not present, but always a presence.
I'm rewatching the first and second seasons, and I had forgotten how much I disliked Gina's approach to Paul in the beginning, but always managed to have sympathy for her. Dianne is just amazing. I love how Gina grows, especially in the second season. With Paul's vendetta against her decreasing slightly, the way Dianne portrays the warmth of Gina captivates me.
I could go on and on about Dianne in In Treatment. I love Dianne's movies and other performances, but I feel she IS Gina in this show. Absolutely masterclass.
