what was claire danes naked in?
She shows her breasts in the film Stage Beauty. The only reason I remember is that it was the subject of discussion in the film (they want to paint her character topless to prove to the public that she's really a female actress, rather than a male actresses who does female roles, which was the norm in the 1600's when the film takes place).
She's also nude in a scene in Shopgirl.7ec
She may have done others that I'm not aware of.
Both good movies and strong performances. My point is that the nudity doesn't cancel out the acting! -

Add Michelle Williams to your list. She's a brilliant actress that has done nudity with some very intense sexual scenes. It won't hurt her career. Also, add Carey Mulligan to the list. She's perhaps the most talented up and coming actress of all.
I agree, doing nudity does nothing to harm an actresses' reputation. In fact, unwillingness to do it has cost actresses great roles.
This thread is a bit silly, I mean seriously, Emmy Rossum is so unbelievably talented, she can write her own ticket. She is young and will have opportunities to do all types of roles. Maybe, for now, she likes doing "Shameless".
Did people whine about Mary Louis Parker doing all those nude scenes in "Weeds"? I think Emmy Rossum's scenes are very much in the same context as Mary Louis Parker's scenes from "Weeds". -

Emmy loves the cast & is happier than she's ever been on a set, she mentioned its like doing punk rock and how could working with William H Macy be considered a downer? She just got a music deal with Warner Bros Its no wonder she has such an impeccable sense of style, her aunt by marriage is the fashion designer Vera Wang and shes in the best physical shape in her life.

As for nudity, give us a break from the prudery one would be more concerned with abject continuous violence on the big & little screen that Hollywood dishes out in vast copius quantity, some of it good when depicting the horrors of WAR but so much is just so grossly casual directed at dumb & dumber teenie/tweenies.

Absolutely agree, if somehow the plebian people could see the magic of theatre is that all absorbing focus that transcends such obsessing over nudity. At least for the actors who themselves are caught up in the act of creating & focussing on their instrument, professionals, not the middle class viewer's projected prudish morality hang ups.

You make some great points. Its almost in the tradition of theater and the acting profession that actresses appear nude, as a method for learning to shed all inhibitions. When theater companies perform works like "Hair", and other plays, at times the entire cast is required to be nude.

You nudity fan certainly know a lot of actresses nudescenes and it's not hard to see why. Maybe you and other nudity fans should leave movieforum and head some movie nudity forum instead.

With Shameless Emmy has given a great performance in a great show. I'm also puzzled why you think the sex in Shameless is unnessecary? In what whay? It certainly fits the tone of the show. -

Nudity should never hurt an actors career, unless it's something like Showgirls. She's brilliant in this show and it's more of a travesty she's never even been nominated for a Golden Globe for the show.

Shameless came out the year before weeds. It is based on the British series of the same name. even has the same person running both of them. So if anything weeds copied shameless. Shameless copied somethin2000g that came before, something that came before that copied that.
Or we can just realize that there are no new stories and many people in this world have similar ideas and similar upbringing. -

I wouldn't say it's hurting her career, but it's definitely holding her back. She could have been doing more movies instead of taking the time to do a cable show that honestly doesn't get much attention. The last thing I really remember seeing her in that had wide appeal was Poseidon, and that was ages ago. I think doing this show was taking an easy, steady paycheck for her at the time.
