Excellent, thanks very much for the link. I'm always trying to find true realism, given there is so much crap out there. Appreciate the heads-up and link.

It's been a while since I watched this, and I've wiped the episodes from my hard drive, but I was unconvinced of the wife's guilt.
If there aren't any skeletons in a man's closet, there's probably a Bertha in his attic.

  • Plot holes? Spoilers.

Good question: A few years ago the British Police always had their files "open" in such cases: They were never simply "Semi-Closed" & forgotten about.
Look at the Lesley Molseed Murder: Her killer was trapped some 30 years later.
Look at the Yorkshire Ripper case & "Wearside Jack" who claimed to be the murderer but was exposed many years later as the man who wasted so much of Police Time (& arguably led to at least 2 further murders by Peter Sutcliffethe real Yorkshire ripper.)
However, as recenty as last week three UK Police Forces (sorry Police
    "Services"
) are contemplating suing the Government for the swaging cuts they proposing, on the basis that they will no longer be able to simply "Police" & protect the public.
Notably, the three "Forces" involved are all in the North of the country:
Greater Manchester, Lancashire & Cumbria. And I'm pretty sure that should Merseyside Police (Liverpool area) follow suitit will leave a very large segment of the Northwest of England with a severely underfunded Police "Service".
(Thus is the North-South-Divide clearly demonstrated.)
So the anwswer to your question is simply:
"Rather depends where you live in England & Wales."

  • Do British Police Have Budgets Large Enough to be THIS Thorough?

You know, I watched the first 5 episodes in one goup to 3amthen I decided to watch the last episode the next day
And I have to agree: It all seemed a bit of a flat ending in some respects..but not all.
But I rather think the footballing boys were not responsible for the grafitti on the garage door or the brick through the windowI rather suspect it was that piece of dross that was trying to ccorrupt Curtis & get him to reject whites/educationthe TRUE Racist!
As for Bernard Hill's character: The "Priest"Mmmm In some ways, he seemed to get off "scot-free" but did he? He was obviously torn between his calling & his duty as a father to three girls. But I did not get the money theft bit..seemed an awful lot of appeasement going on to Jo-Jo financially. That seemed a step too far for me.
As for Clair Slater: That is the crux of the enigma presented: Did she kill them, or was she simply a convenient scapegoat for Eric? That she'd
    seen
things is clear: Is that what triggered her mental illness? Or was her illness the cause of her killing the two men?.The fact that we will "never know" is the beauty of the screenplay I think.
After all, real life is often like that: We will never know the
    whole
truth. We often have to rely on those in a position of trust to at least punish the guilty and not the innocentit happens as we know: But only the quality of our society can minimise such cases. Otherwise: We are simply doomed as a people.
But overall, a brilliant piece of Television: Well done to all concerned.

  • Disappointed with the final episode

I don't know, it seems like Hollywood is getting the point that they suck at British remakes and people would much rather just watch the original (see
    Broadchurch
). I wish American writers would just learn something from the British series like this and drop all the unrealistic, soap opera stuff they put into all their supposed "thrillers" (like the awful new series
    The Family
    .

  • So will Hollywood screw this one up too with a shoddy re-do?

Thank you! Are you sure the site is safe? I always avoid those odd sites that say you can watch movies there, but this one seems good. Anyway guess you wouldn't recommend it if it weren't safe, duh! Thanks again. Beauty is truth, truth beauty.
