Disappointment in the PIRANHA remake goes beyond the movie's subject. There's a huge step down in filmmaking level between Aja's HILLS HAVE EYES (a truly striking, kinetic horror movie) and his PIRANHA. In fairness, Aja has to work with a script by the guys that wrote SORORITY ROW, so it's full of thuddingly dumb satire and misogynistic sexual frustration. It was one of the movies I was looking forward to most last summer, as I'm a big fan of HILLS and HIGH TENSION. But Aja never realized this film on the cinematic terms (visually, the movie rarely knows what to do other than capture Spring Break from high angle shots of kids dancing on boats) to make something as exciting and funny as it demands.

Wow maybe we should all take lessons on life from Mason (he changed his name to cinema love). I believe he had a better vision for what the Piranha movie could have been. There would be no focus on Sex, blood, or violence in his Piranha movie./end sarcasm
I mean seriously the movie was a remake of a ridiculously bad campy movie from a long time ago. What does one expect from a remake of a movie called Piranha? I mean really? If you look at my history I don't spaz out or troll, but come on its the pirahna movie we are talking about. Don't get on here and quote Nolan or compare Nolan and don't expect F####ing Shawshank Redemption when you are watching a remake of a super old super campy movie, and expect to have people respect the opinion you state.

Piranha was a total blast. I hadn't had that much fun watching a horror movie since Drag Me to Hell.

Some people on imdb scare me. If you didn't realize that Piranha was supposed to be a fun/campy horror movie and not a serious thriller, I cannot help you.

He never became bad. He has never been good in the first place.

Yes, how dare he do something different from his usual films. Clearly this one film indicates what the entire rest of his career will be.
Like when Julia Roberts only did moody horror after Mary Reilly.

Pirahna was a indeed an intenionally campy and gory b-movie. it was just a very very bad one.
it is possible to make them good like Robert Robdreiguez did with Dusk till Dawn, Planet Terror ect. just Aja wasn't up to it, so yeah he has lost it a bit.

Pirahna was the one of the biggest pieces of sh*t in the history of cinema.
It was a SyFy TV movie with boobs. Actually, the special effects in SyFy channel movies tend to be better.

agree with cinema love, piranha is a piece of crap, but haute tension is good and Hills have eyes is GREAT, mirrors was not that bad.
I hope that Alexandre returns the director that i loved

He hasn't really become bad, just started out on a high note. Had good source material/production for his two 'breakout' films: High Tension and the Hills remake. Craven co-produced the Hills and Aja essentially ripped off Dean Koontz's Intensity while changing the ending for High Tension. At first he 'played dumb' until people saw the obvious similarity and he admitted seeing Intensity later.
The bottom line is he is just on autopilot after 'making a splash' and his best output is derivative, while his worst is plain bad.
