And I have to disagree. Jolene's T'Pol is just a wonderful character! Compare her character to any other in Enterprise:

I just watched Starship Troopers 3 last night and I'm with you (and Brainsnack and therealguy13). This chick couldn't act to save her life. It's especially damming given that in ST3, she was playing an officer on a starship and of course her big break was playing T'Pol on "Enterprise", ie another starship officer. If she can't even do that believably, I don't know what she's even doing in this business.
As for her looks, I suppose she's hot to guys who've been sexually imprinted by porn stars. But if you came of age before the mainstreaming of porn, females like Blalock just look kind of weird. -

Jolene did an adequate job of approximating Vulcan behaviour. (That's as complementary as Vulcans ever get).
She did just fine in Enterprise. I haven't seen anything else she was in though. But I have seen Starship Troopers 2 and, to be fair, that film was so bad no acter could have made it look good, so I don't expect any better from that.

however playing a role like a Vulcan doesn't help a career, lucky in the episode Impulse she did a dramatic strong performance (that I thought for a moment she was another actress and I am not the only one) showing to be a good competent actress but I noticed these roles waste the career.

She didn't work much before "Star Trek: Enterprise" but if you look at this iMDb link of the people born the same year as she was she has a lot of stiff competition among the females in the list, they list the most popular actors first but Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Charlize Theron, Anjelina Jolie and Milla Jovovich are the top five female actors.
http://imdb.to/UG9FdC
SAG says they have 120,000 actors the department labor stated in 2008 60,000 SAG actors got work. She has a lot of competition. The first four they have listed for the females as it is currently since the list changes have all won or been nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes and SAG awards.
It's not just looks and talent but a consistency in work, even if an actor is in a bad film they can still give a good performance. The first four women IMDb gas listed as being born in 1975 are very consistent in their roles even when the projects aren't that great.
I had never seen anything Ms. Blalock had been in before "ST: Enterprise" and I saw her after that series was over on "Stargate"b68 and "Legend of the Seeker".
Her husband is very successful I just saw his name in the news yesterday because of what's going on with his company Live Nation. She may not want to work as often since she has a small child and her husband does well.
Someone on this thread mentioned she did Playboy I have never looked for any pictures of her but if they were before she did "ST: Enterprise" that would be interesting since the guy she eventually married use to be her booking agent for jobs, I think they started a few years later after he had left the company that was representing her at the time.

120,000 actors and 60,000 got work! I can imagine what could be:16d0 a fight! and obviously those who has friends in high places will win.
Michael Douglas said years ago there is too much favoritism in Hollywood and there are too much talented actors/actress who can't go on.
Jolene in 2002 did a photoreport in Playboy for a fashion house.
Now she has 2 sons. -

Sometimes knowing people helps but an actor will still need to have talent in the long run.
I have several friends who are actors and only one of them works consistently she doesn't know a lot of people but I've noticed she networks better, she goes to the parties and mingles with the right people, people who are good at networking always do better in any profession.
Some people don't audition well or handle the rejection very well if they don't get a part. They can be the pretty girl in their home town but then they go to Hollywood or New York and see hundreds of pretty women with a lot of talent besides just looking pretty.
I've noticed there are sites now where up and coming actors have started putting up their demo reels, IMDb has also started letting them post demo reels, from the ones I've seen some of them might have a future and others may need to have a back up plan.
One of my friends figured out she wasn't going to survive as an actor and has become a successful artists and writer. She was always saying it seemed like they were bringing busloads of pretty girls 24/7 when she went on auditions.
In regards to Michael Douglas his last name helped him early on but he carved out a name for himself, Michael Douglas has two other brothers who aren't as well known, I've seen the offspring of other famous actors not make it. His ex-room mate Danny DeVito said in an interview that Mr. Douglas like his father was good at getting studios to back his projects as well as raise his own financing, that's not something everyone can do.
That is a high unemployment number, but it explains why the same people are always popping in films and television series.

You are very kind, thanks for explanations, however I think that Angelina Jolie and so on are talented actresses but not the "non plus ultra" among thousands and thousands actresses, they have been helped in some way. Yes there is a stiff competition for newcomers even if talented.
Obviously, talking about Jolene Blalock, I refer back 10 years ago, when she was younger not today she is 37, I am doubtful she could get a good job now.
After many years, hearing her old interviews, looking here and there and above all reading between the lines I feel she never got on well with Hollywood politics. -

Ms. Blalock started out as a model, and Hollywood doesn't always look at models as their first choice when casting roles. When Cindy Crawford was at her height they tried putting her in a film because she was popular but she wasn't a actor. there have been some exceptions when it comes to models.
You can tell from her acting resume she hasn't done nearly as many projects as other female actors in her age group.
She doesn't appear to be that interested n acting at this time, as i posted earlier her husband has been in the news recently because of changes at Live Nation, according to Forbes he consodered to be one of those power players in the entertainment industry.

If she wanted to act she could, she may not have played Hollywood politics but she married one of the heavy weights in the entertainment industry, and he's well connected to companies like Comcast, I don't know what her plans are for the future but she wouldn't be the first wife married to an entertainment mogul who could do some wrangling to get her work if she wanted. He use to be her booking agent when he was at CAA.

I didn't know her husband was her booking agb68ent and was at CAA, I know he's been working for Live Nation and earlier for Clear Channel since over 10 years and I suppose she met him in Canada where she attended the Equity Showcase Theater in Toronto, an acting school and some years after they married.
wifewho could do some wrangling to get her workwith her husband or at audition? -
knight_sentinel — 13 years ago(January 03, 2013 12:54 PM)
I think they've both stated they first met when they were both at CAA but they never dated, in separate interviews they've done in the past he had moved on from CAA, and they met again a few years later and started dating.

They married on april 2003 and he was already CEO of Clear Channel Entertainmet and at that time she said in a TV interview they've been both dating since some 4/5 years, likely they first met in Canada: he is Canadian and Clear Channel was there. At the end of 2000 he moved in London for several months then came back and in 2003 they married in Jamaica.

According to the interview she did in The Sun 30 March 2002 - The TV Mag #24: "she stated she had previously met when him when he booked her for a beer commercial in Los Angeles" he most likely met her when he was doing the marketing for Labatt's in Canada, while at Labatt's, he served as Director of Entertainment and Sports and served as Head of Labatt Marketing brands and was a Partner of Core Audience Entertainment this is around 1999 it was acquired by Clear Channel a few years later, she may have still been modeling and she may have been taking acting lessons at that time.
I take away from her interview that he booked her they met and then she did some other jobs and then ran into each other a few years later or they started dating after she broke up with that Furlong guy because he was having substance abuse problems.
I've never seen the beer commercial but then again I don't drink beer and never pay that much attention to beer commercia5b4ls. I usually notice some actors from commercials after they're in a film or television series.n There have been some I remembered from a commercial before they started acting.
She was still dating that Furlong guy in 2001.
I know about his background because I read business publications. He's always struck me as being a very driven guy, he was working at various organizations doing their marketing and booking at the same time. She actually doesn't have a long work history for her age. I don't know how long she modeled before getting into acting.

Here I could you help. In DVD season 2 dvd 7 in the special Enterprise profile:Jolene Blalock interview to Jolene. She starts ib68ntroducing herselfI attended a year at Equity Showcase Theater in Toronto then came back in California and Stella Adler (and anotherI don't remember in this moment)in the same time I modeling to pay the bill
But what wondered me , in this interview she was proud to got very good feedbacks in the auditions and this she repeated in another 1 or 2 circumstances(not the DVD) but she got no jobs. I think it's unusual an actress speaking so and I don't think she told lies (finally they come out) but a hidden meaning.
However in the episode "impulse" she did a very good job a strong dramatic performance that I thought she was another actress but she did.
It's strange a sexy and talented actress got no jobs or Z productions.
I feel she preferred marriage instead career (if we can) -
knight_sentinel — 13 years ago(January 04, 2013 12:43 PM)
I don't think it's unusual for them not to get jobs, three of my friends that are actors are very attractive the one that is black has a harder time because there just aren't that many roles for black female actors,
The other two are white one constantly gets work and the other decided to pursue other things.
I don't know what parts Ms. Blalock auditioned for in the past, from what I've been told by my friend who no longer acts, looking at some of the roles she herself auditioned for in the past and seeing who was actually cast, I couldn't see her in those roles.
The one that works a lot I've seen a couple of her films one she did with Halle Berry and she fit the role but the ones she's done that appear on SyFy aren't so great and I've never seen any of the "Saw" films but she was in one of those.
Actors do make up stories, but I found an interview she did on some late night talk show and it was her first, but the host asked her about doing the conventions and she replied "do you have to do those", he told her I think so, he also told her about going to conventions and with the appearance fees she would be set for life, -
http://bit.ly/Vo9Qrt
With Star Trek being a franchise I couldn't see how she wouldn't know about promoting the show at conventions.
In her case I don't think she was use to doing interviews early on and the attention the series brought so she may not have had her resume and bio history down some actors eventually don't expect to get work if they aren't getting call backs so they don't get all their information straight before becoming famous almost over night.
Ms. Blalock may not have auditioned well or there were just better actors auditioning for the roles, if an actor is really good but the producers don't think they'll fit the role they sometimes will have them read for another part or remember them and cast them in as a guest star.
Some casting directors and producers also cast a certain type of looking women no matter what produce the women all look the same.
Looking at her resume she hasn't done as much work as other actors who started out at the same time. I would be interested to know what parts she auditioned for in the past and then seeing who got the roles she didn't get. that can tell you a lot as to why they didn't get a certain role.
Like that talk show host stated she's set for life on the convention appearance circuit if she wants to do them now, and she well connected through her husband and he's rich.
She's definitely not a starving actor anymore.

I hardly doubt she loves the Star Trek conventions, during the run of Enterprise, she never went, she was reluctant, she did 3 or 4 conventions but after the series ended. IMO, obviously IMO she always felt to deserve much better and doesn't like to be remembered as the pointed-ears woman, honestly to me,I wouldn't like it.

Well you can tell from that very first interview she didn't sound like she wanted to do conventions, but some actors feel that way, but over time when they need money (Which I doubt she'll have to worry about in the future.) or when they're older they'll start doing conventions.
