weighing 500 lbs is a little much. My mother is a nurse and I have been told about the dangers of being morbidly obese several times. Some of the dangers are diabetes, heart attack, and stroke.
And not to mention the social aspects of morbid obesity: not fitting in booths at restaurants, not being able to attend church and/or arena events such as concerts (due to size of seating). Basically speaking, while Mrs. Cates is probably a lovely human being, I imagine her life is very limited and boring due to her size.
Also I cannot bring myself to feel anymore sorry for one who gets themselves to 500 lbs any more than I can feel sorry for a person with cigarette-induced emphysema, because, much like the latter it is completely preventable, unlike renal failure, paralysis, and any other affliction that is not caused by a person's vices.
That being said, maybe if Mrs. Cates had eaten less and moved more, she wouldn't weigh 500 lbs now. There is no bravery to stuffing yourself to illness and then becoming housebound due to it.
Let's call a spade a spade here, no one is responsible for Darlene Cates' condition except Darlene Cates herself.

whats it like being a sheep? I also supsect that you're a little chubby aswell.
She is not Obese because of a medical condition. Thyroid problems are very rare. She is obese because she eats too much and does little or nb68o physical activity.
Anyone who thinks she is a hero because of this needs help. -

OK, once upon a time thyroid conditions were rare. Now they are much more common. As is corn syrup in everything we eat and the constant enticements to eat along with our sedentary lifestyles. Just so you know that although Ms. Cates may have eaten herself into her predicament, it's not so unusual and it isn't necessarily a moral failure on her part. Have a little5b4 sympathy. And go watch "Supersize Me" for a reality check.

Or it could be a disorder that disallows her from processing fats and sugars. Did your nurse mommy ever tell you about those? Who are you to sit here and judge people, anyway? You aren't a doctor. You certainly aren't HER doctor. And I'm sure she doesn't need someone who is less than a professional telling her how to live her life.

I just realized that while I am going through this whole board.. I am finding little good comments about her. Why are most of you bashing her? Oh, I got it, its because shes overweight and got a few acting parts that some of you "actors" couldnt come close to. I say you need to meet her, maybe she has a wonderful personality, she could be hilarious. You never know until you meet her. So.I am asking again.why are you basing you views on her by her looks. If you dont like it, or her, get off the thread. No one forced you to look at her. Shoo be gone. I would think this board is for the fans, and some constructive critisism, (for some of you that are still in diapers, that means not on looks, on her performance). She doesnt deserve hate. When I see her on screen, I don't see "fat". I see a totally huggable person. Sometimes some of you people worry me and then I have to ask myselfhow old are you? Some of you comments seem to come right out of highschool. And thats sad to have an additude like that.

I'm sure she IS aware that she is morbidly obese. That doesn't mae her a bad person, it just shows that she has poor self control and is lazy..I've heard that she is really nice though, which is the important thing. However im sure its a very rare thing HalfBrokenGlass that she has a disorderi mean she weighs 500 pounds and ive never heard of a disorder that severe and Im sure it would be known if she had a disorder anyway. Still she shouldn't have that much compassion from others because it is a condition at which she can fully control and there are other people who actually try to take care of the bodies they are born with by eating right and exercisingsurely she is nice but she seems to be taking advantage of all of her blessings by sitting around and eating too much, just like smokers and how they kill their lungs. But people who smoke are worse bc they are affecting the people around them with 2nd hand smoke, at least Cates isnt hurting anyone. Just be thankful that you are not in her situation and have it be a lesson not to become this unhealthy

Actually I do look at a anorexic person and point and laugh saying "Ha ha it's all your fault" because really it is. No one tells people to get to either end of the weight spectrum, it's their own fault. Sorry, but true.

It's hard to imagine how anyone can weigh that much.I wonder how long she has been that way?Ages ago I watched a program featuring an extemely obese woman who had said that going the restaraunts was really embarrasing.I'm unsure what the program was though.I do however known that the woman involved did decide to
have her stomach stapled.By the way that was a little over a decade ago that I saw that program. -

i agree with the OP being 500 pounds is soo terrible for youshes a walking heart attackif her being 16d0500 punds in hollywood makes women who are 500 pounds feel "better" about their bodies it isnt a good thing, no one should be 500 pounds 300 should be the max
