Just finished watching "The Tortured" and thought she was awful, too.
The film is no masterpiece, but she really brings it down.
Can't pinpoint exactly what's wrong with her performance, but it's grating.
Only watched a couple of her films (can't remember her in the so so "Flightplan"), but I seriously hope she is a better actress than she shows here. -

I will agree that she is bad. She is on Parenthood now and her acting is really wooden. Also, she plays a mother on that show and she always looks like she is trying way too hard to act older than she is in real life! Not buying it

What makes you think she gets hired for her acting skills?

I dunno, I think she is pretty good in Parenthood. I think the character she plays can be withdrawn and emotionally unavailable and that's how the acting comes across. I'm not getting wooden, but I can see how someone who is like that may come across as wooden.

more than just miscast. a good actor can make the most of their role, even if it doesn't fit them. she clearly didn't have the honed skills necessary to pull off being an fbi agent. i don't follow her, so maybe she's better nowadays.

I didn't think she was that great on SVU, but not that bad either.
She was a bit stilted in "Swimfan", she seemed to try too hard in some scenes.
But she was believable.

I haven't seen her in much, I'll admit. But I think she's great in Parenthood! I totally believe her as a working woman/ loving mother. Some people might think that the mom role is easy to play, but I would disagree. You have to form tangible bonds with the actors playing your family members, and I absolutely see that. There's a certain sort of chemistry that has to be present (especially in a show about parenthood, obviously), and it seems that some actors have a lot of trouble with that. It's quite the opposite with Christensenand everyone on the show. It's just my opinion, but I think some people's comments are a bit harsh.

I'm watching "How to Rob a Bank" right now, and she if perfect for the role imo. The chemistry between her and Nick Stahl is very beleivable. In fact this is the first thing that I have really watched with her in it and I was impressed enough to look her up here.
