Everyone makes stupid choices sometimes, if not this particular one. I agree that it's stupid and wrong, a drunk driver took my best friend three years ago (we were 15) but it's no reason to insinuate that he should loose his career- he doesn't drive for a living.
AND since the incident, i've noticed he's hardly driving on the show. -

Wow!Really are we having this conversation right now! For god sake he is in the wrong! No one and I mean no one should drive drunk. I really respect Jeffery Donovan I think he is a kick as actor and producer! I aspire to be like him. But I think he made a poor decision and will def think twice about next time. (I hope!) But to say he isn't in the wrong is Fuc*ing ridiculous. If I can call a cab so can he. Thats all I am saying.

Did it actually say anywhere he was legally too drunk to drive? I'm not familiar with Florida law but if it's anything like California then it's probably pretty harsh. Plus when cops get around a celebrity, especially if the celebrity is in a badb68 mood, they can haul them in just for the beep of it and for bragging rights to his cop buddies about his power trip. He may have paid for it cause he has gobs of money and figured it was easier than fighting it. He may have had 1 drink, started driving home and a jerk cop pulled him over. How often do you get pulled over for trivial stuff and the cop starts picking stuff out of his ass to scare you with? Anyways.he's a good guy, donates lots of money supposedly so you shouldn't be so pissed at him. What a shame. I don't condone driving un2000der the influence. And while I don't completely agree with the above post, it is true that the level is so extremely low that it is very easy to be over the limit.
We have had experience with police who just have to write you up for something. State police thought DH's car was riding low - so they pulled him and made him remove everything from his trunk and when there was nothing illegal - wrote a warning on having a frame around the license plate. -

Wow.. There is an astounding lack of intelligence, logic, and common sense in this forum. This is exactly why I stayed away from IMDB forums for a long time. Maybe I need to reconsider that decision
By the way - the only thing that really sucks about drunk drivers who actually strike SOBER drivers is that the sober drivers are the ones who are killed, and the drunk drivers survive all too often with nothing more than a few bruises. -

Wow are you serious? This is the most incredible thing I have ever read and I have been coming on here for five years and I have read some stupid $hit. Condoning a spoiled over-paid actor's criminal behavior b/c he pays more taxes than the rest of us?! Do you even have a high school diploma? People like you deserve to live in India and be in the lowest caste system, not a country that believes all men are created equal.
And besides, someone at the lower part of a tax bracket are going to feel the hit of their taxes ten times harder than someone else who is making a lot of money so it's not like Donovan is suffering. Why do actors get paid ten times more than teachers, firefighters, the military, nurses, park rangers etc? How pathetic our world is. -

We had pretty cool discussions on the subject in driver's class. The point is, someone who is drunk is NOT able to make sane decisions. When you are sober, you can put in an alco lock, as I b68think everyone should. Or rather, all cars should be sold with one installed. But once drunk, the saying goes where alcohol goes in, sense goes out.
So, while sober, you should give over your car keys. While sober, you can stop someone drunk from getting in their car (talk them out of it, steal keys, pay for a cab, whatever works). While drunk, you think you can handle it. I'm not making excuses, I was bummed to read this thread, as I am a huge fan of Donovan's. And it sucked that no one was there to stop him from driving, and hopefully, he hands over his car keys before getting drunk next time.
Now I have to go watch some more Burn Notice. Jeffrey Donovan is a golden god. -

This is getting so absurd. You people are making a mountain out of a molehill. Because someone has a couple of drinks does not make them DRUNK. The mistake he made was consuming alcohol and medication at the same time. He couldnt have been too incb68ompetent if he was able to maneuver around the cop car to avoid hitting it. He obviously still had his reflexes. And regarding the red eyes, it could easily have been from lack of sleep. Lord knows he puts in a long work day of 14-16 hours. You people have already condemned the guy. I also dont condone drinking because I dont believe believe in it but someone shouldnt be humiliated or outcast because of it.

You're absolutely correct. South Beach is only 5 square miles and this idiot can't take a cab back to his Penthouse8 blocks from where he was drinking. He crashed into a cop car and they still gave him "celebrity treatment". Normally he would be booked at Dade County Jail but Miami Beach Police let him go ROR.
But that's nothing new, Dante Stallworth killed a guy (DUI Manslaughter) after clubbing and got a slap on the wrist. Rich and famous gets you a pass I guess. -

I have a friend whose neck was completely broken, spine severed, is in a wheelchair for the rest of his life and has metal braces on his spine and neck because of a drunk driver.
So my friend wasn't killed; he was just permanently disabled. For life.
There are absolutely no excuses for drunk driving.
I would never get behind the wheel if I had been drinking.
Drinking and driving do not mix.
Anyone who disagrees is rationalizing their own poor choices and behavior. -

If the guy paid the appropriate fine, and served any other punishment appointed to him by a Dade county judge, the issue is closed. Let us hope it remains closed. He made a bad choice and from all accounts already paid severely for it. Hopefully he won't make the same mistake again.
