I met Chiwetel at the premier. I told him that he's been an amazing actor for years and that I'm glad he's working with McQue111cen.
Lupita has a crucial role in the movie and deserves a lot of press. Btw, her accent was so on point! Lovely actress.

Chewitel seems to be a gentleman, I'm happy you could have meet him. He needs a lot of support.

Early fame is not the be all and end all.
Tom Cruise was famous by his early 20s, but he fizzled out by the time he was around 40. For the past decade, his film career has been in the toilet. Mel Gibson is another like that. And many other actors who enjoy early success and fame don't get much more than three or four years at the top anyway.
Have you seen any Kate Hudson movies lately? What about Timothy Hutton movies? She was nominated and he won an Oscar at age 20. The sky should have been the limit, right? It's just not possible to predict overall success from how early in life you start getting attention and celebrity.
You cannot judge a career by how early a person starts getting attention and parts. Many actors enjoy a lot of buzz and hype very early on but it fades away, and many others have a slower, more leisurely rise to the top but when it happens, it happens. Judi Dench is being campaigned for her seventh Oscar nom this year (!) for Philomena - this a woman who didn't even get her first nom till she was over 60! She's a six time Oscar nominee who didn't even have any real film career to speak of till she was a senior citizen!
Meanwhile Ejiofor is only 36 and seems a surefire nominee and potential winner next year. He's doing just fine.

I agree. Another example is Jack Nicholson. He only started getting recognition in his early 30's.

If you notice, practically every young white halfway-decent looking British guy or gal always gets played up like they're the next big thing coming up, but they don't ever do that with the black British actors,no matter how talented they are, which is some bull****,IMHO. Like, for example, they're been pumping up Michael Fassbinder as the next hot newcomer
Except Michael Fassbender isn't British, he's Irish

Erm, no, it's a completely different nation, Ireland isn't part of Britain, it's sort of this whole other country

Yeah, it's a separate country, but it's still part of the U.K.

Born in Germany, raised in County Kerry, in the Republic of Ireland, which is definitely NOT part of the United Kingdom.

Don't get me wrong because I truly love Benedict Cumberbatch as an actor but I am mystified why this year he took the BAFTA LA Best Artist of the Year Award and not Chitiwel considering the high praise he has received for 12 Years A Slave.
How did that happen and he has done considerable noteworthy work
                      what Jordie?

I'm glad that he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. His filmography is truly mystifying. For every "Children of Men" there's a "2012." It makes my heart sink a bit when I see his name listed in the credits of a very poor film. On the one hand, I'm glad to see him because I always enjoy his perfomances, but I'm also sad because he could be doing so much better.
At the same time, he did quite a bit of stage work prior to and during his early film career. As Terrence Mann said, "movies will make you famous, TV will make you rich, but theater will make you good." He did quite a bit of Shakespeare, including playing Othello and Malcom in "Macbeth". He received an Olivier nomination as well as a win.
During those years, Hollywood's loss was theater's gain. One day I want to be fortunate enough to see him in a great stage production.

I've loved his work for years and I'm SO pleased to see he finally has a starring role. I was just watching some trailers and rea5b4lised he was the lead in "12 Years a Slave" which is brilliant. He's had some great supporting parts, wish he was a lead more often. (I haven't seen any of the other films you mention where he is a lead, though I have seen him in heaps of other stuff.)
