What exactly does the Muslim thing have to do with this topic? And siigh the Americans in this thread are acting in a stereotypically American manner. Anything that can be taken as an insult against their "awesome" and "free" country will be met with such simple yet hateful terms as "stupid" or "pansies".
No bloody wonder the lady would rather her child speak actual English.- Tasha.

The article says it in a much more negative way than she did. You should see if you can find the clip from the Graham Norton Show where she said it. She isn't bringing her daughter back to England only for that reason. It was a cute little anecdote about her daughter having a different accent from the rest of the family. And the part at the end was that the nanny had a northern, completely different sort of British accent from Anna. So her daughter said some words like Anna would, some like an American, and some like the nannythree different types of accents from one little child.

Oh geez. I love how such an innocuous comment from an actress that I'm sure none of us know personally has elicited such disappointing responses from everyone. There are the Americans who whine and go, "How dare she not love our accent! Brits are pansies and they suck." Then, there are the Brits who react no better and go, "Well, of course she's right! American accents are UGLY and everyone hates America."
As an American myself, I don't really care what Anna Friel does or why she does it in regards to moving back to the UK. I do think it's understandable that she would prefer to have her daughter speak in a similar way as the rest of the family. Of course, I was raised in a household where English wasn't the first language and my parents both have thick Asian accents, so I could also tell Friel that having different accents isn't that big a deal. But whatever floats her boat.
Why would a banana grab another banana? Those are the kind of questions I don't want to answer.
