She's not ugly - why do people think she is?

Yes about Ryan Reynolds! He is only hot from the neck down (ex: green lattern, the proposal, blade trinity). While he is not ugly, he has the kind of face that needs to be punchedhard. He's goofy. Now Maggie G. On the other handwowumnot a pretty girl, and it has nothing to do with her not being marketed as a sex symbol. She is not hideous, no, but she is not a classic or even a modern beauty. My opinionnothing moreI don't know her so I'm not saying that she's not a good person, not saying she's not a smart person, but she is not easy on the eyes (and beauty is in the eye of the beholder). There is something off-putting about her face (her nose is snout-ish, her eyes are sad and droopy giving her an older-than-she-really-is appearance, low cheek bones, frown lines, a dowdy posture, et al.). Though I really liked her in The Secretarysuch a good movie role for herbut I still thought she was NOT a pretty girlquirky, yes. And quirky works in HW which is probably the reason for her career. And I'll say this: I was shocked to learn she and Jake were siblings for they look nothing alike. He happens to be very handsome, definitely attractive.

I don't get why people are saying she doesn't market herself as a sex symbol. She wasn't exactly playing a prude in 'Secretary' OR 'Sherry Baby' OR 'Happy Endings'.
She's attractive enough, far from uglybut she's not likely to be very high up on a "SEXIEST PEOPLE" list. She IS talentedand she seems like she'd be very cool lady. I'd like to party w/her and Sarsgaard sometime.

I don't get the hate about her looks eitherto me she has an old-school movie beauty, and seems to be the type of actress who's not really into being the Hollywood star type. I've always thought she was pretty (I've only seen her in Mona Lisa Smile,Sherrybaby, Donnie Darko, and one of the Dark Knight movies) and I like her work so far.

Granted everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I also believe that she's extremely unattractive. There are certain people in t5b4his world that see a strange beauty in people like Maggie, but I'm sure that the majority of movie goers would agree with me. Her eyes are a bit droopy, and combined with her pig-like nose, it's a bit strange. but I'm not perfect either. ;^P

Irish Son, for starters, she must be ashamed of her teeth the woman never smiles, she 'smirks'. If you Google images, and you have to go to page 3 before you even know if she has teeth. As for the 'never marketed herself as a sex symbol' - again, just google images - and excepting for non-screened shots of her breastfeeding her daughter, most of the images available show her in 'call girl' attire black stockings, garters, thong panties, push up bras, some shots with clear 'bondage' quirks - soooooo, what? You think this is marketing herself as, say, an intellectual?
As to the actual question - her face is not 'ugly'; it's 'common'. From the 'top' -
The forehead, and face itself, is broadly 'flat'
The brow is too low, and 'fleshy', beneath the eyebrows, thus mostly covering her eye lids, bringing the brow down to the eye lashes
The cheekbones are significantly low, creating a 'sunken' look below her eyes
The eyes themselves significantly slant downward on the 'outside'
The upper teeth tilt inward
The upper lip has very little distinction between sides
The chin is a bit pointed
That said, the most 'unpleasant' aspects of the face are the low (and 'fleshy') cheeks, the low brow beneath the eyebrow, and the downward slant of the eyes, on the outside.
All that said, still Ms. Gyllenhaal is
not
ugly. But her face lacks the 'chiseled' features of, say, a classic beauty, like Catherine Deneuve, or the Redgraves, etc. Her face is somewhat like 'Betty Boop', only with a chin.
What the world needs now are MORE SQUIRRELS! Then there would be fewer NUTS running around, loose! -

I think Paris is butt ugly. Maggie is not attractive, not beautiful, I wouldn't say ugly but cute at best. Her acting is OK for me but if we're talking looks yeah she in my mind is NOT beautiful. Trolls or not call it what you will people have their own taste and if 'a person' watches all of her movies and drooling on her pictures obviously 'this person' is conditioning their own self to believe she is beautiful. Opinions can be biased, yes, and everyone has their taste and type. Who cares anyways. Beauty comes from inside and out so perhaps people that have a positive image of whoever in their mind - what they see will be beautiful also it's called the 'halo effect', and if someone doesn't find her that, it's opinion and again because people have a right to choose, that's why ther1908e's so many so that we can choose -

well being that everyone is alowed to have there own opinion so you have know right getting pissed off but in my opinion there is nothing anyone can do to make her look pretty i think she is ugly she has a great body but her face is hideous
