Katy was better than Grace in High Noon

I agree. I noticed that right off. She is a really good actress and took command of the screen. I'll check out her other movies now that I know who she is. I just saw High Noon for the first time.

I too, agree. I loved the way she put Lloyd Bridges (Harvey) in his place. Straight to the point, no beating around the bush I thought she was more gutsy than Grace Kelly in the film, however, it was Grace Kelly who stayed until the bitter end. Don't blame Katy's character though, she'd had enough of that town

I love Grace Kelly, I mean the womans beautiful. But I do agree that Jurado had a real presence. She struck me from the very start, not only with her unique beauty, but just with her acting ability. Therefore it was no surprise for me when I came to IMDB to see that she had been in so many movies.
The other thing, remember when considering her character and why she didn't stay that she said she was leaving B/C no one was sticking with Will Kane, and because without him the city would be dead. -

One thing to point out is that Katy's character was written much better than Grace's. A better comparison would be to compare them in their better roles. Nothing against Katy thought. This was a wonderful performance.

Katy's delivery of her lines in High Noon was more remarkable given that English is not her first language.
"You're a good looking boy, you have big broad shoulders, but he is a man. It takes more than big broad shoulders to make a man, Harvey, and you have a long way to go. You know something? I don't think you will ever make it."
Wow. What a put down. -

Now there is an Actress who is deeply missed. Such power and passion in her acting, and this movie too.

I agree. Katy Jurado was an excellent actress, and in High Noon she had an opportunity to show her talent. She was unparalleled in playing strong, brave, tough women. She fills her lines with deep emotion. Katy was also gorgeous; look at her eyes and lips! However, let me say that also Grace Kelly gave a great performance, playing a completely different character. The face-to-face between Katy and Grace is one of the highlights of that wonderful classic movie. Let me conclude remarking that Katy does not abandon Kane. Within her deep core, she knows that the marshal will survive, and goes away, sacrificing herself for the man she loves, since she thinks that the little Quaker is the right woman for Kane (I'm not that sure, though). Ciao from Italy Paolo
