Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mark Kermode

    lordtufty — 15 years ago(January 23, 2011 07:17 AM)

having only discovered wittertainment a few moths ago, I have not been able to hear Mark's opinion on many films that were important to me when growing up.
I am especially interested in what he has to say about The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Spiderman 1 & 2.
Would anyone be able to direct me to his reviews, or, if you have the audio files, please send them to me by email?
Also, is there anywhere online where I could access his older reviews more easily?
    Thanks!

      Spiderman 1 & 2
I've not heard the actualy reviews, but he compared the Spiderman trilogy to Raimi's
      Evil Dead
films, claiming it followed the same pattern of
"First one godd, second one great, third one total mess"
      .
I disagree with his opinion of
      Army Of Darkness
      .
There don't seem to be many more archived reviews out there, other what's on the BBC website and You Tube.

I think Mark loves the LOTOR films. Especially the last one.
The review of Fred : The Movie is on Youtube. A funny review. Just turn down your speakers otherwise Dr. Kermode's review will blow up your speakers!
As for the first two Spidermans Mark loves them as well. I think he even put Spiderman 2 on his Top 10 films of 2004.

There was a very comprehensive A-Z from 2004 onwards a year or so ago. It got binned for a list from just the last few years instead. The old ones are hard to find, try youtoob or torrent maybe.

I agree, and I recall Kermode saying that 'if any of them were Oscar-worthy, it's the first one', of course it was ROTK, generally held as the poorest, which took home 10+ Oscars.

my sentiments exactly. i dont get all teh acclaim for the third one-especially in regards to the SFX-in some scenes it was pretty awful!!!

The trilogy (in general) is one of Kermode's favourite films of the previous decade. I'm listening to a podcast from when King Kong came out and Simon Mayo mentions it.

He's called them 'masterful film making' which I think means he liked them a tad.

TTT was just hitting Orcs for 2hrs? I suppose you could say something similar about the battle scenes in 7 Samurai or Zulu. The whole battle for Helm's Deep was my favourite part of the whole trilogy -though I could have done without the dwarf tossing.

In terms of trilogies Kermode rates Toy Story 1,2,3 at the top and LOTR 2nd best.
