George Lazenby was the best James Bond. How sad that his personal arrogance and immaturity cost him the role which ended up in Roger Moore's hands for so long. George was offered a deal several times that would have kept him on through A View to a Kill, but he turned it down as if to say Bond was beneath him.
Still, with that being said, all this criticism he gets is very unfair and unwaranted. His only Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the best James Bond movie made so far, and George himself was the best Bond. -

Connery, Moore, or Brosnan couldn't have done it as it would have been out of their character. Dalton and Craig could have done it. But then could Lazenby or anyone else have pumped three slugs into an unarmed guy as calmly as Connery did in Dr. No? Craig could have done it and so could Dalton but not Moore or Brosnan. Brosnan was the only one to have the same degree of style and class as Connery. We'll see what Craig does in his next movie. I'm very impressed with Craig.

Just saw this thread now. The original poster on the thread is right.
Look, I know to this day many hate George Lazenby and OHMSS for whatever reason. But I have to say this guy was the best Bond easily. And his film was just wonderful. This is the real Bond people. It's what Bond could have continued to be with a revenge film in DAF but we never got to see it.
Why do people think film makers like Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino wanted so badly to either re-make OHMSS or make DAF taking up right after OHMSS as if the 1971 OHMSS Connery film never happened?
It's because this is was what a true film hero like Bond was worthy of. Lazenby had everything for the part. He was Bond through and through. Cubby Broccoli even admitted in the 90s before he died that he regretted how he handled the situation because he looked back and realized Lazenby was the best Bond by far and the series could have really been something more than in it ended up being.
It's a damn shame that THE definitive masterpiece in the Bond series is scoffed at and ridiculed by most "Bond fans" while a film like Casino Royale and Daniel Craig is heralded as the best ever.
PLEASE!
Give me Lazenby or Dalton and their films every day and any day over Casino Royale and Daniel Craig which is nothing but just more modern Bond, which has no soul, no heart, no feel and is just commercial crap for the idiot masses.
As for Brosnan - BORING, DULL, LIFELESS, LAME just a stuffed shirt nothing else. But Pierce I will give you this, you Pierce made a better James Bond than Dan Craig by far. I cannot believe the fools that thought Craig was good. It's like the standards of Bond just went into non-existence. -

Lazenby was not the best Bond however OHMSS was one of the best films. I think that you are confused between him being a good Bond and the film being an excellent film. The sound track, specifically the song 'We have all the time in the world', the cinematography, directing and most importantly the novel, which without there would be no film, all contribute to the fact that this is a brilliant film. However to say that Lazenby was the best Bond is wrong because all of the others outrate him. Again you may not think Moore but you must look at the plot and the screenplay before you look at his persona as Bond. This was an awesome film an it gives you the impression that Lazenby did a good job at playing Bond, when he didn't.

Hi
I hate to tell you, but George Lazenby, like it or not, was the best James Bond. Case in point: In OHMSS James Bond is required to go undercover and take on another identity. Sean Connery would'nt simply be convincing since he has time and time again proven that he can not learn another accent. George Lazenby, however, did it flawlessly. Had he not botched things up by playing an arrogant prick, he would have gone on to greater things instead of lending his talent to Z-grade material.
As to his so-called woodeness as an actor. I think that's partly true, but still he's able to deliver a bravura performance and a range of emotions not equalled by either Connery or Moore.
Kind regards, Paul -

ALTHOUGH I DO AGREE THAT GEORGE LAZENBY HAS BEEN UNFAIRLY JUDGED AS JAMES BOND, AND THAT EVERY BOND ACTOR BRINGS SOMETHING NEW AND DIFFERENT TO THE ROLE, YOUR POSITION OF HIS BEING ABLE TO DO AN ACCENT IS BASED ON AN ERROUNEOUS FACT THAT HE DID THE ACCENT. HIS VOICE IS ACTUALLY DUBBED BY ANOTHER ACTOR WHEN HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE UNDERCOVER.

Hey bro, don't be a hater. Lip-syncing takes skillz too, yo.
Just look at Arnold Schwartzenegger in "Hercules in New York."
Oh wait, they just got a voice actor to dub over his voice.
Never mind.
Kudos to the voice actor! heh heh.

Lazenby I am unsure about, with regard to whether or not he was the best Bond. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is without a doubt one of, if not the, best Bond film, however. Although I do rate Lazenby very highly indeed as well. He would surely have made Diamonds Are Forever at least good.

Sean Connery was easily the best James Bond. He is an excellent actor and he could also do the physical acting and action scenes far better than any of the others who played Bond. Lazenby I think is nowhere near as good, even though the film On Her Majesty's Secret Service is quite impressive overall. Moore wasnt too bad, but there was not a good Bond movie with Moore. Brosnan has no class as Bond and he is physically too scrawny. Dalton is a good actor but his Bond was too serious and emotional somehow, he is just not right for the role. Connery is the only true action star who played Bond. Although everyone is entitled to their opinion about this.
