Dunno, but agree she was awful in there. Almost ruined the film for me. Very sweet and likable girl but not fitting for that kind of role. Most of the time she didn't look and feel scared at all or was sleepwalking the lines.

She phoned it in for Drag Me To Hell (I don't think she was supposed to bring her A game for this one anyway since the film is a nod to B horror films) but brought it in Matchstick Men and White Oleander. Geez give her a break it's one frickin' movie and you all are judging her. Judge her on an entire body of work, not one film.

I'll put it this way; Alison Lohman was to Big Fish and Matchstick Men what Ben Affleck was to Chasing Amy. All great movies, but not because of them.

Honestly, I didn't know her at all in any of the previous movies she starred, but really, all I can say that she did a brilliant job in this movie. IMO, she acted so well, that a lot of people could sympathize her feeling (how scare or anxious she was in the movie) or condition in the movie, including me. Now I admire her, but too bad she doesn't have any upcoming movies.

Obviously you don't have to like the film, Drag Me To Hell, there ain't nothing out there that's meant for for everybody, but you do need to understand one thing; the film is meant to be tongue in cheek, in fact, her role was tremendously reminiscent of Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead series, be it obviously, not as extreme. But this is not a coincidence, Raimi is a fan of goofy, slap stick humor, and shot a film as such, and in that sense, she did a tremendous job.

Nanosecond is the only person on this thread that seems to get it. The entire movie is ridiculous - because it is supposed to be as incredulous as classic gore/horror horror/comedy b-movies. How does no one pick up on that????

I will admit that the first time I watched
Drag Me to Hell
I didn't think she was too great, upon the second viewing I thought she was alright, though. It's not like her acting was spectacular or anything, but I didn't think it was as bad as I had thought. She is pretty cheesy in that movie, but given that it's a Sam Raimi horror movie then I think it kind of fits, ya know? -

People say she is a horrible actress because of "Drag Me To Hell", but the plot sucked.
Doing a bad movie doesn't make an actor bad. Just look at the cast of "Ishtar".
Every actor or actress in Hollywood has done at least one bad film. Meryl Streep got panned for her role in "Mama Mia" and Michael Caine was in "Jaws 4", yet their acting isn't questioned.
For every bad movie she does, she has done a good one as well.
I don't get why she doesn't get the recognition she should, unless she doesn't try to play the "Hollywood" game, and try to get a camera in front of her.
Either that, or she should sack her agent for putting her in movies that don't get her major attention. -

Never seen DMTH and don't intend to cause I dislike horror movies, but Alison Lohman is a very good actress.
I can't believe nobody mentioned her performance in Where The Truth Lies. She showed a wide variety of emotions in that role, despite pro critics thinking she was miscast. Given the role she had to play, she excelled it. In Matchstick Men she was great as well.
One bad movie/performance doesn't erase the fantastic work she did in other films.

This "terrible actress" post is BS. If the OP had any class, he/she would delete it. Not only is it absolutely rude to have this on her page as the opening post, but it is far from the truth.
I never saw "Drag me to Hell". However, she was so fantastic in "Matchstick Men", and "White Oleander", she should have won Oscars for both films.
I am looking forward to her coming out of retirement and doing more work. She is one of the best actresses in the business.
