Nanosecond is the only person on this thread that seems to get it. The entire movie is ridiculous - because it is supposed to be as incredulous as classic gore/horror horror/comedy b-movies. How does no one pick up on that????

I will admit that the first time I watched
Drag Me to Hell
I didn't think she was too great, upon the second viewing I thought she was alright, though. It's not like her acting was spectacular or anything, but I didn't think it was as bad as I had thought. She is pretty cheesy in that movie, but given that it's a Sam Raimi horror movie then I think it kind of fits, ya know? -

People say she is a horrible actress because of "Drag Me To Hell", but the plot sucked.
Doing a bad movie doesn't make an actor bad. Just look at the cast of "Ishtar".
Every actor or actress in Hollywood has done at least one bad film. Meryl Streep got panned for her role in "Mama Mia" and Michael Caine was in "Jaws 4", yet their acting isn't questioned.
For every bad movie she does, she has done a good one as well.
I don't get why she doesn't get the recognition she should, unless she doesn't try to play the "Hollywood" game, and try to get a camera in front of her.
Either that, or she should sack her agent for putting her in movies that don't get her major attention. -

Never seen DMTH and don't intend to cause I dislike horror movies, but Alison Lohman is a very good actress.
I can't believe nobody mentioned her performance in Where The Truth Lies. She showed a wide variety of emotions in that role, despite pro critics thinking she was miscast. Given the role she had to play, she excelled it. In Matchstick Men she was great as well.
One bad movie/performance doesn't erase the fantastic work she did in other films.

This "terrible actress" post is BS. If the OP had any class, he/she would delete it. Not only is it absolutely rude to have this on her page as the opening post, but it is far from the truth.
I never saw "Drag me to Hell". However, she was so fantastic in "Matchstick Men", and "White Oleander", she should have won Oscars for both films.
I am looking forward to her coming out of retirement and doing more work. She is one of the best actresses in the business. -

Aww who gives a Bleep about your opinion. You cant get up there and do it. Just keep snarflin your popcorn. There is nothing wrong with this woman as a performer. Nothing wrong.
It may be your opinion but it is hardly noteworthy and carries no weight past a few ignorant cranks such as yourself.

Naw. Shes pretty good, actually. Attempt a career in the field for a good 4 years, at the very least, and then your opinion will amount to a possible hill of beans. Frankly, by then you will have discovered that it isn't as easy as it looks sitting around on the outside.. watching, judging already finished work. Anyone with eyes and half a mind can do that. Your opinion is hardly notable as it holds little to no weight beyond you and a faction of others who rant on in ignorance about things they know little of
Not trying to be rude. I appreciate your opinion. Its valid to you and some. However, it only confirms my reasoning with regards to her capabilities and potential as a perfectly legitimate performer.

I enjoyed Alison Lohman's performance in 'White Oleander' and there was nothing wrong with her acting, nobody could have improved on her performance. Sometimes I feel that people making comments using formats such as IMBd have an agenda that shows more of what is wrong with them then the people they get a down on. I feel sorry for them. Movies are entertainment, not real life, and the actors and actresses do their best with the material they have.

@primo-st
From what I remember (I saw the film and thought it was pretty entertainingI especially thought the plot point hinging on the older woman trying not to get her house foreclosed on was very much on point, since it was after the big 2005 economic crash) and it was gross, but crazy and entertainingI mean, like some folks said, it was a Sam Raimi flick, so you knew how much craziness to expect) reading in a review of DMTH that Lohman stepped in to replace the original actress at the last minute. That's how she got the role, which she was actually fun to watch in. Only came here because I spotted her in BIG FISH, which I'd like to see againfrom the beginning this timeI like tha old-school movie magic look and feel it has, plus it's not your typical Tim Burton flick. -

- Watch other of her movies.
- Especially MATCHSTICK MEN.
She's anything but a terrible actress.
