The IQ thing and the rest is a mythbegun by Jayne herself! She was plenty smart, charming and had LOADS of confidence. The way things went with her career, she might have done better to have been a wee bit more insecure, and taken smart advice. Or any advice! (Marilyn, on the other hand, took too much advice, from too many people.)
Jayne was an intelligent woman. But she was no genius. -

I don't know that anybody can actually verify things like an IQ score , especially with information that's so old so you'd just have to take their word for it . Anyone can play the piano and violin being "classically trained" and it doesn't mean they are an expert . I've never heard she could play it well just that she was "classically trained" so it's how you interpret the information you hear . I always hear 5 languages but never hear which ones . It was probably exaggerated a bit . But that being said , even minus any exaggerations I'd say she was still far from a bimbo .

Apparently Jayne could speak French, English, Spanish, Italian and German.

Yes, I think she could speak English fluently!

As for foreign languages, I am not sure to what extent she could speak them. She appeared in a German-language movie in the early 60s but she acts in English and is dubbed into German so I gues5b4s her German was nowhere near fluent. I've also seen footage of Jayne being interviewed in France and bravely stumbling through a handful of words in broken French before switching to English. She also seemed to giggle rather nervously throughout which I took to mean she didn't quite understand everything that was said to her.
I think the "she spoke 5 languages" thing has been wildly exaggerated. Perhaps the IQ score has too. We'll probably never know. There's certainly no reason to doubt it. I wonder though whether the IQ and languages thing were just studio spin to contrast with her image as a dumb blonde.
By no means dumb but certainly no polyglot. -

It was Life magazine that had Jayne billed as Hollywood's Smartest Dumb Blonde. Mariska does have that cover framed and hung on her wall at her home since I've seen it many times for her "At Home" specials in magazines.
Jayne wasn't dumb, but she did made some dumb choices but haven't we all?

Personally, I just can't understand why someone with such impressive intellectual gifts wouldn't want to actually make something of it, rather than spend their life downplaying it for lesser accomplishments.
Imagine if someone was potentially brilliant enough to develop a cure to cancer, but chose to "suppress" that intellect. -
