Yes, I think she could speak English fluently!

As for foreign languages, I am not sure to what extent she could speak them. She appeared in a German-language movie in the early 60s but she acts in English and is dubbed into German so I gues5b4s her German was nowhere near fluent. I've also seen footage of Jayne being interviewed in France and bravely stumbling through a handful of words in broken French before switching to English. She also seemed to giggle rather nervously throughout which I took to mean she didn't quite understand everything that was said to her.
I think the "she spoke 5 languages" thing has been wildly exaggerated. Perhaps the IQ score has too. We'll probably never know. There's certainly no reason to doubt it. I wonder though whether the IQ and languages thing were just studio spin to contrast with her image as a dumb blonde.
By no means dumb but certainly no polyglot. -

It was Life magazine that had Jayne billed as Hollywood's Smartest Dumb Blonde. Mariska does have that cover framed and hung on her wall at her home since I've seen it many times for her "At Home" specials in magazines.
Jayne wasn't dumb, but she did made some dumb choices but haven't we all?

Personally, I just can't understand why someone with such impressive intellectual gifts wouldn't want to actually make something of it, rather than spend their life downplaying it for lesser accomplishments.
Imagine if someone was potentially brilliant enough to develop a cure to cancer, but chose to "suppress" that intellect. -
