- Election
- About Schmidt
- Sideways
- Citizen Ruth
I love all of Payne's movies and think he, next to Wes Anderson, is probably the most consistent of the handful of talented directors that came to fore in the mid-90s. "Election" and "About Schmidt" are both about as perfect as movies can get, and "Sideways" and "Citizen Ruth" are about as perfect as movies can get short of being as perfect as a movie can get.

- Election (10/10) The best comedy all time
- Sideways (10/10) By far the best movie of the padt year
- About Schmidt (8/10) A very acid and fun movie
Alexander Payne is one of my favorite directors all time, he is so talented and his movies have a lot of fun and I really love that.
I cant wait to see his next movie.

I really feel like I'm splitting hairs with the top three, but here goes:
- About Schmidt (10/10)
- Election (10/10)
- Sideways (9/10)
- Citizen Ruth (7/10)
Sideways was perhaps as good as the other two in many ways, but I just needed a few more laughs to get the same tone that I love.

Payne adds great imagination to what I've seen of his work. Most interesting was Citizen Ruth and the unusual photography, like the many images she saw through that little glass (forgot the name); her left and right eye seeing her leg at a different angle, but most of all, it seemed when Ruth got into a jam, she looked directly into the camera. It was quite human when she was lying in bed and heard those voices coming back to her, the judge, the nurse, Norman's boss, etc. Payne is the best to come along in a long time. Keep coming back!!!

In my opinion, his work is getting better and better. Citizen Ruth is a well made satire, but it's easy to tell that this is his first full-length film. Election was the best teen comedy I have ever seen (with plenty of adult humor for older audiences), About Schmidt is about the most honest slice o' life movie I have ever seen and Sideways is the best buddy/middle age crisis film I have ever seen (the acting in this one and music just made it magnificent).
