are we talking just as Director?
my favourite movie he is attached to was the Orphanage. I am dreading the remake.
then Pan's Labryrinth and Blade II
And Max the king of all wild things wanted to be where someone loved him best of all. -

- The Devil's Backbone (by a mile)
- Pan's Labyrinth
Aside from (moments in) Cronus, I don't like any of his other films. (I haven't seen Hellboy II, but seeing as how I didn't enjoy the first Hellboy, I doubt I would enjoy that movie, either.)

1.Pan's Labyrinth(the masterpiece)
2.Hellboy II: The Golden Army
3.The Devil's Backbone
4.Hellboy
5.Blade II
6.Cronos
7.Mimic
Pacific Rim(TBD)
To me, his films fall into 3 categories.
Small personal works like Cronos, The Devil's Backbone, and Pan's Labyrinth,
&
mainstream Hollywood blockbusters like Mimic, Blade II, and now Pacific Rim.
The Hellboy movies are coterminous on both ends of the spectrum. -

Of those I've seen, I'd rank them:
1)The Devil's Backbone
2)Cronos
3)Mimic (The Director's Cut)
4)The Faun's Labyrinth
5)Hellboy
6)Geometry (short film)
Still haven't seen Blade II, Hellboy II, Pacific Rim or any of his other short work.

- A tie between Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy - Pan's Labyrinth is his "best" film, but Hellboy is my personal favorite. It's a movie that I could watch over and over again and not get bored. Helps that I'm a HUGE fan of the comics.
- The Devil's Backbone - An amazingly well made ghost story with a heart. Love the setting and the backstory/look of the ghost.
- Cronos - An amazingly well made vampire story with a heart. Love how small and intimate the story is, considering the subject matter.
- Pacific Rim - An amazingly well made giant robot/monster movie with a heart. Best movie of the summer.
- Blade II - Purely and simply a big, dumb, fun action movie. Jared Nomak and the Reapers are awesome villains.
- Hellboy II - Love the look of the world that del Toro designed and the big ideas that he tries to explore, but the story is lacking and I really dislike Danny Elfman's score. Also a bit too much humor for my taste.
- Mimic - A pretty bad film, but not all of that is del Toro's fault. It could have been a fun B-movie if the studio didn't meddle with it so much.
