I'll never get over the fact, that the Hobbit-deal went down.

I'm sure Terry Gilliam was offered HP and turned in down and rightly so.
People like Terry don't inherit movies the making them from the ground up, if he made Harry Potter a Gilliam film it wouldn't be anything like the books, if he didn't make it a Gilliam film he would not only be selling out but it'll be pointless to hire Gilliam and not have a Gilliam film.
Same goes for Jackson and Toro (I know he did Blade 2 but it was early in the career and needed to get a foot in the door some how.
I didn't want Toro to waste his talent on The Hobbit, he'd have to answer to Jackson it probably wouldn't have been any closer to the book and it probably wouldn't have been much different to what we ended up with. -

Alfonso Cuaron was able to put his own touches on Prisoner of Azkabahn. I'm sure Gilliam and Del Toro would've done the same.
if he made Harry Potter a Gilliam film it wouldn't be anything like the books,
I would've liked to have seen that film.

Yes, I understand.
But that doesn't mean I can't wish to have see what they would've done with the movies if they'd been up for doing one.
The fantastic world of Harry Potter with its assortment of characters, locations, and creatures is just ripe for someone like Gilliam or Del Toro.

I've never understood why people think Del Toro's Hobbit would've been so great, the man himself admitted that he doesn't care for sword and sorcery / high adventure fiction. His version would've looked pretty, no doubt, but the tone of the story would probably feel more Lovecraftian than Tolkien.

His version would have probably been better then let Jackson gave us.
There sure as hell would not have been any damn Wizard being towed by a bunch of rabbits.
