On a steep hill it should roll almost instantly. How not notice the car rolling. Also why would you put in neutral, that

I seriously hope you are not insinuating any foul play. You would have to be paranoid schizophrenic or have an incredibly low IQ to think that. It doesn't take much to think about how ridiculously unlikely that would be. Not to mention next to impossible. There are about 1,000 easier ways to off someone. This would be something straight out of a Hitman video game.

There's easier ways to go, even using a car
so you want your last moments to be suffocating and not being able to breath

When learning to drive, I was taught that when you park your car on any steep slope, turn the front wheels slightly to the side before turning off your vehicle or selecting parking brakes. So if the vehicles starts rolling by itself, it will instantly turn to one of the sides.
good suggestion too bad its not taught in drivers ed

Maybe he got out to check a problem with the jeep on the back end i.e tires exhaust. Car started to roll he seen this had to run for the gate to try jump over it as from what i seen the drive way is small enough and the jeep sounded pretty massive so only wada0y was over the Gate ran to the gate was to slow and the jeep crushed him.

I'm guessing he stopped his car to check the mail, got out and went to the mailbox and didn't notice the car rolling towards him until it pinned him up against the mailbox. Way too many people looking for sinister reasons that this occurred. Just a simple mistake that Anton made and it cost him his life. That's too bad because I liked him. Always hoped he would do some more Odd Thomas movies.

The Jeep he had had a known problem, the gear shift, when put into Park, would sometimes actually be in Neutral instead, or so I read.
Also, a vehicle doesn't necessarily start rolling in an instant if it is on a slight slope, and hardly makes any noise, so if he had his back to it, it could've conceivably hit him without Yelchin noticing it at all.
For people who have commented that maybe it was suicide, I hope they weren't serious, as that's ridiculous.

Thank you! I was about to type pretty much the same thing when I came across your comment. I also love that people immediately point to drugs or alcohol too. Why can't this just be a freak accident and nothing more?

He was probably doing what most people would do when checking the mail. Standing there sifting through it to see what is useful and what is junk. Everyone checks what they got standing right by the mailbox. And as far as the neutral thing apparently it was a huge issue with that car. A lot of people didn't realize it was not in neutral. That is why it was being recalled.

Not really. I stopped my Jeep Wrangler, put it in neutral (it is a manual transmission) for our street is flat (at least I thought so). I got out to check something across the drive and the next thing I heard was a bump. It had run into our mailbox and we have a steel post. Damaged the front bumper where, if you have seen the Jeeps, has two plastic bumps in front. It hit right on the driver side one. I was so stupid and passed. But I found one on Amazon for only $100 and my husband, complaining to me for it is not as an easy task as you would thing, changed it out. I never heard the dang thing until it hit.
