Great actor

Dwight is definately one of the better crossover actor-musicians out there. Sometimes, though, I think that his acting career really takes his attention away from his wonderful music (and, let's face it, no matter how good of an actor he is, his acting abilities could never compare with his immense talent as a singer-songwriter). Still, acting brings out a whole different side of Dwight and I always enjoy seeing my favorite soft-spoken cowboy go psycho on screen from time to time. He's an amazingly talented guy and I admire the hell out of him, no matter what.

Wow, I had long admired Dwight ever since "Streets of Bakersfield" and well through the 1980's, but I never knew until today th5b4at he has appeared as a film actor. Yes, his soft-spoken nature causes him to rank among music's greatest talents, but the Country genre has long lapsed into history after the nation was divided in 2000, when Radio stations dropped the format. Its "artists" had become too loud and untalented anyway, but Dwight never lost his appeal. Wish that I could afford to see one of his films one day or maybe have the opportunity to hear some of his 1990's music, but those unjust Red States have taken away our jobs, income, opportunity. LOL - that's funny.
But I know what he means - and country music has gone in the toilet since the mid 90's, it's really boorish redneck music now in a way it never was before. People like Dwight who are real artists with their music, who write powerful lyrics and tell the truth in their songs, well you are not going to hear that on country radio now. Clint Black is another wonderful artist who writes intelligent lyrics that are too smart for today's country radio. -

I think he studied acting prior to becoming a professional musican, in any case he has always taken acting more seriously than most music stars who essentially just play themselves or just show up and read the lines. I've noticed many movie reviews single out his performances. I think with the right script, he could easily win an acting Oscar.

Oh man, he was so danged good in Sling Blade. He played his character so convincingly - very realistic. I've known a lot of jerks like Doyle Hardgraves, and Dwight played him to a tee.
Completely agree. It was an Oscar-level performance, in my opinion. -

I think he
s specialising in playing psychos. He also played one in Sling Blade. I was very surprised to learn that he was a composer and singer, rather than primarily an actor (just so you know where Im coming from, "new music" to me means 1830s). While I thought Panic Room sucked, Dwight Yoakam did a fantastic acting job, almost as good as he did in Sling Blade. -

I have a tremendous respect for this actor. Every time I see a movie he's in, I forget that he's the guy playing the part. And when the credits roll at the end, I think to myself, "That was Dwight Yoakam?" Every time.
Counry music still blows, though.
