Anyway, it's refreshing to see a new young artist such as Lorde come on the scene and have success. Maybe she will start a pop music trend back in the right direction.
To me Lorde is not all that different from mainstream. When I think of someone with different sounds it more like Imegan Heap, Lykke Li, Lia ices or Fiona Apple new cd.
Here are there songs if you don't know their music.
      Imegan Heap:
      Lykke Li :
      Lia ices:
      Fiona Apple new cd:

Lorde isn't all that bad but she isn't unique so I am in agreement there.
I saw a review comparing her to Nirvana as she was leading a new way that is an "alternative" to the common airplay. The irony of that is, Nirvana wasn't unique as there were many other doing alternative or grunge (depending on how you want to think about it) at the time. It was more of who from Seattle broke on a national level first or that has always been my take.
What if Alice in Chain's Man in the Box had hit first?

That's how it is though with some artists. I've seen where people though Gaga invented the "awkward unique style". Bjork did it way before Gaga.

This applies to all pop stars tbh.

The ones that take themselves too seriously become rather insufferable.

I ask good people, I don't want to sing with crap people
I think this is the most telling quote. She seems to have a hard time finding people who are good enough for her.
And. After the issues with Clive Davis and Ryan Tedder. Yeah, there is a reason that no one wants to work with her.

Didn't she fire a guitarist on stage? Rather unprofessional if you ask me. I guess one thing they don't teach on American Idol is that you do business off stage.
I'm not suprised no one wants to work with her. Other than that one country guy who was likely coerced into it by the record company at the dawn of the breakout period of his career. In a way you can compare to the Beatles Pete Best/Ringo scenario.
I feel like I'm a very nice person that you might want to sing with me.
People who often go around telling people they are nice usually aren't. On the contrary they tend to be sociopathic or have anger issues. In the latter case it's clearly denial.
I don't know about you guys but I'd rather be in the studio with a sociopath then a prima donna with anger issues.

Very correct! And before it is said, I never claim to be nice.
