I've always been curious about this, too. I think it comes up because women from India, or at least whose parents are Indian, are often strikingly beautiful, which attracts the attention of guys regardless if they are Indian or not. But does that attraction go beyond the physical? A lot of things that Indians do naturally can easily look antiquated or stupid to someone without the patience to understand the culture. Look at the unending war between Indians and Pakistani. Until 1945, that kind of warfare was pretty common in the West, but now that we've come to realize the vast cost of endless war, we look at Asian nations fighting and wonder at the necessity.
Then there are the differences in how families work. I think the average guy from America or Europe will struggle to understand these family dynamics (I sure did). And this can lead to a relationship full of conflict. Asians seem far less prone to rushing things, so we goras have to let things happen at their own pace, which could put us under a lot of stress.
I think Indian women intuitively know they have many difficulties ahead of them if they entangle themselves with outsiders. And they can't be as certain that the advantages are real. Plus women are progressing within the Indian culture, so an Indian man with modern values could be far more supportive than Indian men used to be.
If I were single, the gulf between me and Indian girls would be very hard to take. I feel for the guy who thinks he's in love with a Desi girl who doesn't respond. I picture myself in that situation and know it would drive me nuts.
So I just content myself with the thought that brown is beautiful (exquisite sometimes) but it won't be something I'll ever see close up.
