I wonder what the reception to the Beatles would have been if they had been performing later hits like Hey Jude, Come Together, A Day in the Life, Helter Skelter, etc instead of that teenie-booper ****?
Interesting…
In 1964, they were radical enough in their appearance alone. In a time when mosy males wore crew cuts or slicked their hair back in duck tails, The Beatles caused quite a stir.
They did gain respect for the fact that they wrote their songs while most pop artists did not. I'm not saying that The Beatles didn't record a few covers here and there. They did. For the most part though, they wrote their own music, and as the times changed and they became older and saw what was going on in the world, their music evolved and changed with them.
I bet they would have been booed off the stage and never given another chance. What a difference a few short years can make in popular culture.
And in those few short years, they definitely had a hand in changing the pop culture.

Though I wouldn't say I was ever a huge fan of the Beatles, to be alive during that time would've been kind of neat. You know, to experience Beatlemania firsthand. To witness that and to witness the mania over Elvis would've been something to behold. Hasn't been a single musical act that managed to replicate the level of popularity as either the Beatles or Elvis Presley. I guess it helped since they first broke through around when TVs were becoming a common household item.
Going to go off on a little tangent here: I find it fascinating how the same band that recorded songs like "A Hard Day's Night" and "Twist and Shout" also recorded "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Across the Universe". They're the only band to completely switch their entire approach to music and remain just as popular as when they started. You got bands like Radiohead who went from making music with a very grunge sound to electronic post rock kind of stuff, but they didn't remain as popular as when they first broke through.

They and their music changed with the times and what was going on in the world.

A babe in arms who grew up to be a Babe…
Oh, I can remember that as though it were a moment ago! Just don't ask me to remember what was going on five minutes ago!
I think my favorite is Rubber Soul. The White Album comes in a close second.
I really can't think of a least favorite. I'm a true blue fan…
