Anyway, this genre would be much less famous without Shania.
This may be the single most ignorant comment I have ever read on IMDB.

Garth Brooks, George Strait, and Kenny Rogers have more total sales. Also, George Strait did it without having to pander to pop fans. Again, I stand by my statement.

..but they are not international superstars. They didn't make this genre popular outside US or Canada. More than that, they are unknown in many parts of the world (unlike Shania!) -

It was a Country/Pop music! Big difference. Anyway, this genre would be much less famous without Shania.

I would hardly expect traditional country artists to be huge international superstars. I like Carrie and couple other country pop artists. I like some of Shania songs. Shania made herself international superstar. I'm not bashing her at all. She had a little impact but not as much as others. Being international superstar and selling the most does not guarantee she is the most influential. Kitty Wells will always have the most impact. She paved the way for all solo country women. That effects all women in country who has solo career. Patsy Cline years after her death is still inspiring a lot of country singers to this day. Loretta, Meryl Haggard, George Straight and Johnny Cash are still being named as inspiration from country artists. Shania accomplished a lot in her career. That doesn't make it any greater than other artists in country. Country will always be American genre anyway. They don't need to be international. -

Shania made herself international superstar.
Mutt Lange did that actually.
Kitty Wells will always have the most impact.
Actually, one could argue Patsy Montana paved the way as she was the first female country singer to sell one million copies of a single.

" She's a true country singer "
Grace, you look like a very nice person, but the truth of the matter is that someone your age wouldn't have a clue of what a ' true country singer ' is if you were bitten on the butt by one. -

Taylor has a HUGE fan base of preteen and teenage girls. They buy her music, go to her concerts and follow her every move. They also buy into the young love themes in some of Taylor's songs. So Taylor has worked hard to maintain a clean image so those girls (and their parents) can view her as someone worth emulating. Plus she has her adult fan base, as well. I like Carrie's music as well (and she also has that "good girl" image), but she straddles the line between country and pop. Carrie is older, married and has a child, so it's harder for teens to identify with her.
