Well said, Domenica! I loved this actresses' name the first time I heard it because it reminded me of Ruth Gordon's strong character in Harold and Maude; my favorite movie. I always assumed that her parents chose this name as a nod to the movie. If I had a daughter I would seriously consider naming her Maude. (even though as kids we used to call my aunt "Maude", after the Bea Arthur character because of her big, gray5b4 bouffant! lol.)
BTW, I also used to work with a woman named Domenica and I always liked that name, too! -

These people have obviously never travelled, hence their small minded ness. I live in West Germany and Maude is a common name here, and is not seen as 'an old lady name'. Americans think that the whole world should follow their prompt in ideology and trends.

What a petty thing to say. People are named what they are because it means something to their parents. You're pretty shallow & clearly a jerk for picking on/bullying someone based on a name.
But she'll have the last laugh anyway as you come up w insignificant things to complain about on a board, she'll be starring in films. Get a life weirdo -

I think of the Bea Arthur show, when I hear the name Maude. BUt, maybe it's an Apatow family name. It's hardly a cruel thing, to do. Names are very personal, obviously I always think, it's better to have a unique name, than a wildly popular name, like Michael, Jennifer, etc.. I grew up with a very popular name, and in each class, I always had atleast 3 other classmates with the same name. I hated that. Anway, sometimes children do not like their names, but when they get older, they appreciate it I think JUdd is a cool, name too

Maude isn't a good name for this decade and sounds very old-fashioned. But at least her parents didn't name her "Audio Science" or more famously, "Apple" loving your kids does not necessarily mean giving them crazy names to confuse other people.

It reminds me in modern family when Cam and Gloria are looking for Jay's dog and they find that a little girl has it. Cam asks her name and she says "my name is Blanch", and Cam says to her "shut up!!!" In shock at how old fashioned her name was.

Judd said he grew up watching the great Norman Lear tv show Maude starring Bea Arthur (who totally rocks)! He lived that show and named her after Maude. That character in the 70's was a groundbreaking role for women and the women's movement! Harold & Maude is also my all time favorite comedy and it's a cute name.
She's such a mature actress and that's why the name fits well.
