Is coming back?If she comes back obviously she and Alaric will get together. THey will explain the kids the situation. Kids will have two moms? Or Caroline will lose them too (since rumor has it that Stefan is dying)
I hope if she is coming back, Jo continues to treat Caroline as kids' mommy. I read somewhere there is a term used in situation like this "birth mommy" and "egg mommy". Yep sounded weird to me too LOL but apparently this is how the situation is explained to kids.

My opinion, first, Caroline is immortal, don't think she should want to see the girls getting old and dying, second she is the third wheel. She has pride she won't stick around. Gosh it looks like she'll be single meaning they will shove Klaroline down our throats again.
Everyone is coming back, what makes you think that Stefan won't? Looks like gates of hell are open. -

Caroline is their mother. She isn't going to just abandon them because they will get old. She isn't a third wheel, she is their adoptive mother. I am positive Jo would respect her place in their life, particularly given that she saved their lives.
