That would have to be a tie between:
      Barney Miller
      Night Court
      Quantum Leap
      Shiny. Let's be bad guys.

        Magnum P.I.
        was the greatest!
Also thought this should have made a great superhero theme:
        The Colbys
They'd never get away with such extravagance (2:22 minutes long!) today!

          Knight Rider
is by far the coolest from the '80s. VERY cool indeed.
          Family Ties
          ,
          My Two Dads
          , and
          Miami Vice
          are runners-up.

                Bugger.
I remember it from the eighties repeats but it turns out Return Of The Saint ran from 1978-79.
Anyway. Check it out on youtube. Wheeeeeee!!

                              in that order
tons of great ones, though - love so many of them

Greatest American Hero, Charles in Charge, Underdog, The Nanny, Kimba the white lion.
Oddly, I didn't care much for the first two, and only saw a couple of episodes. But the theme songs were great. George Costanza immortalized the first by incorporating it into his answering machine message on Seinfeld, and Ted's acappella group on Scrubs sang Charles in Charge and Underdog.

I don't know why, but I seem to like instrumental theme songs better, and am a big fan of most of the tv themEs done by Henry Mancini.
