Although apparently that means, "lacking affinity for water."
It was spelled "hyderfoaby" in the book? There are no results in Google for that spelling.
It does say "Hydrophobia" is "an antiquated term for rabies." -

I never read the book. I just spelled it how it sounded like the guy in the movie was pronouncing it. I remember reading somewhere that rabies was called hydrophobia because the infected animals or people would develop an aversion to drinking water as the disease progressed or some such scientific mumbo jumbo.

My favorites are the Thrice one and the Thelma & Louise one.
On a related note (Thelma & Louise), the other day, there was a Growing Pains episode from 1987 on TV with Brad Pitt in it, and then a couple days later, there was a Family Ties episode from 1984 on, with Geena Davis in it.
