Do people ever give you a hard time about your drug use?

I am 20, about to be 21 and I have been smoking cannabis to relax for almost a year now. I've experienced suicidal depression, heavy anxiety attacks, and feeling so angry I get chest pains.
I have found that cannabis helps me to relax, stimulates my imagination and appetite, helps me see things in a more positive light and makes me a far more generous and loving person. Oh and I do a better job cleaning house when I'm high too. And these good effects last at least a few days after a smoke. When I am high, I begin to realize that John Lennon was right - All You Need Is Love!
But I've found recently that without it, I am seeing the world again the way it was before I started using these substances. It is a dark, bleak insane asylum of sick, selfish, greedy self-righteous people who pass judgment on me because I don't care to include myself in their sick little world.
I know a few people in my class who have talked about going out and having a few drinks. But when I told them I'd much rather smoke a peace pipe than have a drink, they become judgmental. One of them said to me, "it's gonna catch up to you one day" and when I advocated responsibility with pot, she said "there's no such thing as a responsible smoker".
Amazing how the self-righteous sober crowd, the people who have never smoked pot in their lives, always have an opinion about people they know nothing about. The difference between tokers and those people is that we respect the rights of others to choose as they wish.

Some people have with my cannabis use. I have been a smoker for almost three years now and I'll just say I have not felt happier in these few years that before taking up marijuana. I do agree that once you are off it's magical effects that world is a depressing sludge hole again, but that is just because weed takes you away from the troubles of the real world. Good talking with a fellow (and from what I've heard a repsonsible) smoker on IMDb.

Oh.. my brother every single day.
Countless times, me and my closest circle of friends are ridiculed, insulted, and condemned for our cannabis use. It's very sad. However, those who spit the insults cannot be blamed for they probably are still lost in the Regan inspired "joints kill people" mindset. People have been mis-informed, and it is very hard to get people who have had their mind made up for them, to think for themselves. I remember many a times in high school, being at ultra-lame parties, and having all the drunk people freaking out about so called cops outside. At this point my friends and I would come in from enjoying a few good bowls, to a frenzy of drunk children scattering about on their cell phones talking about how their future is toast because the cops are "breaking up the party". My friends and I would try desperately to calm people down, and tell them it's alright nothing will happen, and in return we get ridiculed for "being high as a kite" or when I would proclaim "everyone needs to calm down and chill" a response of "Not everyone is on drugs" would quickly come. Sadly, these young children didn't realize they WERE on drugs (i.e. alcohol). Years of misinformation and propaganda have completely changed the youth's perception of right and wrong. Through countless double standards on laws "drink but don't smoke pot" to MTV and modern media sources for the young, it is fair to say that eventually, the "man" will win, unless we do something to stop it.

Solidus,
You know from our past interactions that I have no problem with people who smoke, in fact I do it myself fairly often. Not as much as I used to, but I'm getting to the reasons for that.
You said something a little disturbing in your post here.
once you are off it's magical effects that world is a depressing sludge hole again, but that is just because weed takes you away from the troubles of the real world
I don't relly have the right to lecture ANYONE on pot, but I have to be honest and say that your saying this is not a good sign. Escaping from everyday life through habitual behavior, no matter whether it's pot, alcohol, sex, gambling, whatever, is pretty unhealthy. Ask yourself this: If for some reason, you couldn't get your hands on weed for say, a week, would you go nuts and feel depressed and irritable? Would you wish you could just get high and forget about the crappy world for a couple of hours? This is the subtle danger of weed, and believe me, I've been there.
I remember being so depressed when my girlfriend broke up with me that I just wanted to get high every minute of every day, and I did. For about 2 years after that, I didn't go one single day without smoking, until I ran out and didn't have a connection lined up it hit me pretty hard, but it was good to detox for about 6 months. Now I smoke maybe once or twice a week instead of daily, it helps you appreciate it more I think.
The key is to not smoke it for the wrong reasons. That's the root of a psychological addiction. If you're just having fun, enjoying the feeling, etc., that's awesome and that's why people should smoke. Using it as an escape hatch is bad news for most people.
Having said all that, I love weed, and I'm glad you do too. Just be careful.

Well, well, well. Look who decided to show his ignorant face again.
Where you been, Nippleripper?
Yes, marijuana, like ANYTHING (including posting ridiculous inflammatory crap on message boards so people will pay attention to you) can be psychologically addictive if you choose to abuse it in that respect.
Hey Hippie have you ever done any of the following?
-had a girlfriend? (guessing no on that)- gambled?
- masturbated? (how many dozen times a day?)
- watched television?
- eaten?
- cleaned your house? (probably no because you live with your mom)
- had sex? (no)
Any and all of these things can be abused to the point where they become psychological addictions used to escape the problems of everyday life. Addictions of this nature start with YOU and your own mental state. Don't blame the drug because of the person who chooses to abuse it. Some drugs are physically addictive like heroin, marijuana is not one of those.
I'm really looking forward to having some more rational discourse with you on the subject that you know absolutely nothing about besides what you learned in the DARE program. Welcome back, I'm going to enjoy destroying you.

Heh, shows how well informed you are. I live in Holland, where personal use of cannabis is considered legal. I've heard it mentioned that Dutch pot is the strongest there is, though I can't really verify that (but we tend to mix it with tobacco anyway). Although I'm not a big pot smoker, I like to have a smoke every once in a while (something like three or four times a year). I don't think I know more than two or three people from here who haven't smoked pot at least once, but having said that, it's the visiting foreigners who AREN'T allowed to smoke it in their own country who are really intent on lighting one up. People who are from here are usually non-habitual smokers, i.e. they may or may not smoke pot every so often, but definitely not daily (with one or two exceptions). I'd say it's probably not a great idea to smoke a few joints a day, since it tends to make people a little slow, but that's about all. By far the most addictive and dangerous thing about the pot that is smoked here is the tobacco that's usually mixed in with it.
I get the impression we actually have fewer potheads here than the U.S. does, and I think the reason is because it's legal here, and therefore less exciting. But yeah, the drug CAN be psychologically addictive, like anything at all can - but as mentioned, that has very little to do with the drug itself. Anything that makes you feel good is potentially addictive. And as far as I know, eating addictions are no more rare than addiction to pot. On the other hand, alcohol can be both mentally and physically addictive, making it a hard drug according to formal distinctions. Ever had a drink? -

Oh dude, you ever want a half-assed argument, talk to someone who's been brainwashed by their high school health classes about weed. Most people I know are cool with what I do, but there's a couple of asshats on campus who think I'm the spawn of Satan for what I do.
Looks like you forgot to take your anti-retard pills again. -

My family does but thats only because it's illegal. They don't care about me drinking or smoking regular cigarettes though. And most of my family are hypocrites anyways. They all admit to smoking when they were young and now they act like they are better because they don't anymore. I just smoke to relax. It calms me down way more then damn anxiety pills my doctor prescribes.

Heres a story for ya:
My buddies used to do just about everything down the pike a few years ago and I was the "square" that didnt smoke or anything. Now, all of a sudden since they have girlfriends and junk, they think they're above it all and turn up their nose at me when I'm around and blaze up even though they've done worse stuff(Meth, ice, shrooms, coke, etc.)and all I touch is the green. beep' hypocrites, EVERY. LAST. ONE. OF. THEM.

Imagining it doesn't count hippie. Also what's "sextual?" I'm more familiar with the word "sexual" so please let me in on this new word of yours.

No joke though, Hippie Ripper, your an ignorant, hate driven fool spreading propaganda that has been disproven for years. I blow my smoke in your face good sir, in hopes it will straighten out your clearly warped mental state.
