I agree with that one. I always felt so sorry for Isabella. Her situation was the one thing that made me a little annoyed with Heathcliff. I was furious with Cathy for half the movie. But with Heathcliff, I only got irritated when he was with Isabella because he was using her. And she was too young to understand.
My other favorite is: 'If he loved you with all the power of his soul for an entire lifetime, he couldn't love you as much as I do in a single day'.
I just wanted to scream at her 'IDIOT! Look what you've thrown away!'. pauses and thinks Actually, I think I did.

me too, i don't play an instrument along with it, but i mean that that scene always makes me tear up too, and i watch it over and over, and rewind. It's pretty sad. But what about that scene where heath cliff says,"what do they know of love, who know nothing of life?" that is deep. My heart drops every time i hear that.

Ah, but you forget, they are not Lawrence Oliver's words, they belong to Emily Bronte.

I love the scene when Cathy and Heathcliff are out on the Veranda, and he asks her, "How can you stand here beside me and pretend not to be moved? Not to know that my heart is breaking for you?" Omg, so romantic!

It's romantic in an adolescent sense, which Heathcliff and Cathy never seem to get beyond. Their relationship is so dysfunctional that it seems to be more about will than anything like an adult version of love. I wish I could remember the novel better.

Cathy: Who else? He's sunk so low. He seems to take pleasure in being mean and brutal. And yet, he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same. And Linton's is as different as frost from fireEllen, I am Heathcliff.
Beautiful, like poetry. Olivier was good yes, but i still don't like this film as much as i should. I'm going to buy the 2992 version off eBay.

My favorite quote was from Dr. Kenneth: "There's nothing else I can think of to tell you except keep her in the sun and give her plenty of cream and butter". These should definitely be among the Surgeon General's guidelines.

Cathy: No matter what I ever do or say, Heathcliff, this is me - now - standing on this hill with you. This is me, forever.
why: she makes undone everything she is going to do, and here on the hill they are together, they love eachother, having a nice time. This is what she really wants, but her brain says no (marry the rich guy). Even if she's with that guy, she will always love heathcliff, forever.
She wants that moment to stay, forever. Its so innocent and lovely
