It's romantic in an adolescent sense, which Heathcliff and Cathy never seem to get beyond. Their relationship is so dysfunctional that it seems to be more about will than anything like an adult version of love. I wish I could remember the novel better.

Cathy: Who else? He's sunk so low. He seems to take pleasure in being mean and brutal. And yet, he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same. And Linton's is as different as frost from fireEllen, I am Heathcliff.
Beautiful, like poetry. Olivier was good yes, but i still don't like this film as much as i should. I'm going to buy the 2992 version off eBay.

My favorite quote was from Dr. Kenneth: "There's nothing else I can think of to tell you except keep her in the sun and give her plenty of cream and butter". These should definitely be among the Surgeon General's guidelines.

Cathy: No matter what I ever do or say, Heathcliff, this is me - now - standing on this hill with you. This is me, forever.
why: she makes undone everything she is going to do, and here on the hill they are together, they love eachother, having a nice time. This is what she really wants, but her brain says no (marry the rich guy). Even if she's with that guy, she will always love heathcliff, forever.
She wants that moment to stay, forever. Its so innocent and lovely
