I'm curious why so many people have plato's stepchildren on their worst episode list, and why it has such a low rating on imdb? Surely it isn't because of that interracial kiss considering it's 2016. I didn't think the episode was one of the best, but it wasn't so horrible to call it one of the worst either. Reasons?

The "power corrupts" theme of "Plato's Stepchildren" has been done better, and so has the "aliens with gnarly mental powers" bit. The centerpiece of the episode is an extended torture/humiliation scene, which is particularly distasteful and unpleasant, and that is what leaves a bad taste for me. There is nothing enjoyable, entertaining, or interesting in these scenes, and no real point being made. It is uncomfortable and frankly painful to watch.
The only positive thing about the episode is the always excellent Michael Dunn. -

The only positive for me about the episode is seeing Barbara Babcock again. IMO, she deserved more screen time and would have been far better in a more "command" type role like in "Wink Of An Eye" than Kathie Browne (who IMO lacked Babcock's gravitas to be credible as a queen).

"Aliens with gnarly mental powers" is one of the most overused (and annoying) tropes in all of science fiction.

I wonder why so many have
Mirror, Mirror
on their best lists. I wouldn't put it on my worst list, but "alternate universe" stories just don't do much for me.
But anyway, and in no particular order…
Worst:- Spock's Brain
- The Omega Glory
- Bread and Circuses
- Patterns of Force
- The Squire of Gothos
- The Apple
- The Way to Eden
Best: - Amok Time
- The City on the Edge of Forever
- Journey to Babel
- The Conscience of the King
- Balance of Terror
- Where No Man Has Gone Before
- The Enterprise Incident
It was a lot harder to fill the "best" list than it was the "worst." I loved the show when I was a kid, but it's terribly dated now.

And I care about the inane ramblings of the president of the Dunning-Kruger Club why, exactly…?
Go **** yourself, moron.

We all have different opinions, of course. "Whom Gods Destroy" is salvaged by a fine performance by Steve Ihnat; I like "Spock's Brain" as a satire on on network television, and in the "so bad it's good" vein of entertainment. "Plato's Stepchildren" is pretty awful.
"Catspaw" has a fairly interesting theme - the psychological horror of things that go bump in the night - but the theme is poorly explored, it has limited, repetitive action, and the atmosphere is wasted on a fairly silly narrative. I think they could have done much, much better. As a "harmless piece of fluff" it should at least be more entertaining. -

Any worst list that doesn't include
Spock's Brain
can't be taken seriously. In my humble but honest opinion, it's the worst episode of the entire series by far.
