It wasn't racist it all-the big guy was being an aholelook at how he treated the prostitute, like he was entitled to treat her like s*, and how he beat down the Chinese guy-I was glad he got his a** kicked because he was a punk anyway.
And I actually found the movie non-racist for the simple fact that it didn't portray the Chinese as these dumb stereotypical characters (this mainly because it was the late '60's)-they're shown to be a proud,strong people in their own rightI especially liked it when the Chinese general told the American military official to get off their land. -

the movie was not only racist,portraying the Polish character in a very negative way,but also politically correct,portraying the Chinese characters in a very positive way,merely because they are visable minorities.
so this movie is both racist and politically correct,both equally negative in my view. -

So therefore, all Polish charactors should always be played in a positive, benevolent, all-knowing, compassionate "knight in shining armor" type of light? Should Hollywood create a board that reviews and has the power to order re-writes of Polish charctors that they deem to be portrayed in a less than flattering light? Is that what we need here? What, there are no Polish @$$holes in the world? Lighten up pal. Try just watching a movie for what it is and avoid blowing a gasket over trivial matters.

NO,you are right,all Polish charactors should not be played in a positive,benevevolent,all-knowing,compassionate,"knight in shining armour",all the time.that would be boring and predictable. my question is,why are all the Polish charactors played in a negative,none friendly,none charitable,stupid,and not compassionate way all the time? ask yourself if a Jew or a negro would be portrayed in a similar manner in today's movies. not a chance. so there are no Jewish or blacks that are $$holes? not according to Hollywood.would Jews or negros "lighten up",if they were played like the Polish people?would they "avoid blowing a gasket over trival matters"? you know the answer.

How do you know whether or not the Polish character in question was not Jewish? It's just a movie, and a pretty good one. Let it go. There's no hidden agenda here.

Come on,seriously.you know and i know that Jewish chacacters in Hollywood movies would never be portrayed in this negative manner.Jews are alwayes portrayed as innocent victims or goodie-goodies.only the goyim are played like the Polish guy.

African American? So..you were born there? Even stepped foot there? I'm American and my ancestors came from Scotland and Ireland 250 years ago. I'm not running around claiming those 2 countries as home. That term African American is the biggest joke. 99.9 percent of "African Americans" in this country have NEVER set foot on the African continent. And if you are from Africa, please specify what country.as Africa isn't a country.

Simon Oakland often played bully type roles. One exception was Psycho where he is the psychiatrist at the end explaining the Anthony Perkins character to the sheriff.
In real life Oakland was an accomplished violinist. He was of Russian Jewish origin, not Polish. I always think the "heavy roles" are more interesting to play. Don't get too hung up on the "how come the bully has a Polish name?" I think the stereotype of Polish-Americans as stupid or whatever is long gone. Just like the Irish all being drunks, the Scots being stingy, the Italians being mafiosi, etc. -
