I have never read it. I definitely will if I ever get my hands on a copy. I have to wonder if the ending in the novel was nearly as powerful as what they did in this movie. I'm curious about the differences in general!
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Of course it's an ending. Wasn't that clear in the article?
The twist comes in the ending. Up until then, the audience is led to assume that they are on a planet other than Earth.

That's not a twist, it's just an ending.
If it was a twist the twist would be that they are in the FUTURE of Earth, not on another planet in the present day.
Big difference.

I'm not going to argue. Most people consider both endings of the TV episode and the movie, twist endings.
I would tell you to take it up with Rod Serling, who wrote the Twilight Zone episode. He is also credited as one of the three writers on Planet of the apes.
Problem is, he's no longer among the living.
Must you nitpick about the silliest things?
It was an ending, alright?

— 1 year ago(April 26, 2024 11:37 AM)The surviving men all agree that they must be on an ASTEROID. Space service personnel would never even consider such an ABSURD ASSumption, as they would know that an ASTEROID cannot support any kind of atmosphere, nor would it have Earth-like gravity.

Really? Here's how I see it:
Yours: S1.E15
I Shot an Arrow into the Air
Mine: S1.E7
The Lonely
The other one I was thinking of was: S1.E20
Elegy
Did they finally do away with the asteroid fantasies at some point?
