The twist comes in the ending. Up until then, the audience is led to assume that they are on a planet other than Earth.

That's not a twist, it's just an ending.
If it was a twist the twist would be that they are in the FUTURE of Earth, not on another planet in the present day.

I'm not going to argue. Most people consider both endings of the TV episode and the movie, twist endings.
I would tell you to take it up with Rod Serling, who wrote the Twilight Zone episode. He is also credited as one of the three writers on Planet of the apes.
Problem is, he's no longer among the living.
