My daughter and I were talking about MASH recently, and we started riffing about how cool a remake would be. So we started thinking about who would play what character.
HAWKEYE: Dane Cook or Vince Vaughn - they would both have to tone it DOWN a bit - a cross between Hawkeye and themselves (both of them essentially are the same guy in every movie they do).
Lt Col HENRY BLAKE: Will Ferrell
TRAPPER: Matthew McConaughey
RADAR: Johnny Galecki
FRANK BURNS: Steve Carrell
Father Mulcahey: Luke Wilson
Hotlips: Jennifer Coolidge
Lt. Dish: Kate Hudson
Klinger: Sacha Baron Cohen

No offense, but, I would pray and hope that they would cast real actors that are good at their craft and able to do comedy
much like Sutherland, Duvall, and Gould.

MASH does NOT need to be remade. The original can't be topped. IMO what's killing the film industry these days are all the crappy remakes of classic films and TV shows. Hollywood needs to start coming up with its own ideas again, or else step aside and let the indie directors take the lead. Just my opinion.

Oh, OK. I just don't want anyone to get any ideas! Sorry, I'm a crazed Altman fanatic and MASH is probably my all-time favorite Altman film I can get a little defensive!

Okay, everyone, chill! First off this is just a hypothetical question. I also loved the movie when it came out, my parents took me to see it, (part of a Christmas present, 1970I was 13 and couldn't get in by myself, it was "R" and the theatres were more strict in those days. I believe that it shouldn't be remade, because it was just right the way it was. However, if they did, this is what the cast should beand certain aspects have been changed a little bit
Hawkeye Paul Rudd Smart charmer equally sarcastic/sweet but lovable
Trapper Vince Vaughn Earthy, tough, and funny, very loyal good friend
Duke Luke Wilson Southerner a little misguided, but ultimately has good intentions And Duke should also have a bigger part this time!
Frank Burns Ray Liotta (Yes Burns should be a little more hot, and more of a villan, going more against our heroes) The "fight scene" between him and Hawkeye should be a little more intense,
Hotlips - Leslie Mann She should be tougher, not crumble when they guys make fun of her, After all, she is the head nurse!
Lt Dish - Anna Faris She should not just be an object of desire, but a good nurse
Col Blake - Steve Carell (Yeah, he should still be clueless, but a nice person!)
Radar - Christopher Mintz-Plasse Young man, just inducted into Army, a little bit naive/homesick,but a smart computer techie. -
