Football scene the best part of the movie?

I thought it was the only part that kept me from disliking the movie. I fell asleep for a few mintutes but this part woke me up. I had a friend who just walked away from the film while my other friend thought the movie was amazing. Didin't hate the movie but that part kept me awake.

Agree with a couple others here. It was the least interesting episode, I thought. I understood the parallels between the game and war, but I wondered if the sequence would've worked better if it had been slightly condensed. I understand why it's there, I suppose, although a little more absurdity would've helped it along.
Sorta reminds me of the end of Duck Soup, although that film ends with far more absurdity and probably makes the anti-war/anti-bureaucracy message more powerfully. -

I thought the film had lost it's way by then (and even more so during). The first half of the film was dominated by Sutherland's Hawkeye, but he blended into the background.
It's one of those films I remember well, yet struggle to recall the end.
