So every "old movie" is terrible? Is The Godfather "terrible"? Star Wars? Jaws? Psycho?
Go watch the latest Spider-Man or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film then. To each his own.

Then you missed a white knuckle, edge of your seat movie experience if you have never seen Duel.

            Came across this:
Given how people drive and especially in situations that involve tailgating, the reality of this movie is that it's potentially quite realistic.
People on the highways in particular seem to love riding the ass of the car in front of them, even if that car is going 85mph and passing cars in the right lane, it's still not enough.
Then there are the cars that are driving along, and when you go to pass them, they speed up, sometimes quite a lot, so you cannot pass them and are forced to get back behind them. Their usual course of action is to them slow right back down again. People hate being passed by another vehicle. It seems to bring out some primal sense of competitiveness in certain drivers.

I believe it. We have experienced this sort of thing with the tailgating. Some friends of ours have also told us about a situation where the driver in front of them would speed up, rather than allow them to pass. They just drove along behind them and turned at the nearest exit rather than getting into a potentially dangerous situation.
It's a very strange climate these days.

I have had that happen to me, and do the same thing if they get particularly aggressive. We have a lot of great big trucks with lifts on them, but even those without, I cannot see ahead of where I'm going. I have an SUV and not a small sedan so I'm even elevated a bit.
Most of the time, when I encounter a tailgater it's because we're all caught in the left lane as a lone driver does 70 in the passing lane pissing off everyone behind them. What pisses me off, and this just happened a few days ago, the truck put their high beams on and got on my ass. Being a truck, the lights blinded me in my mirrors. I was so tempted to brake test that fool. Fucker.
Another stupid one is when they simply
                muuuust pass you
, only to drive 1/4 mile and get off at the next exit.
                Seriously?
You couldn't wait 1/4 mile? WTF?

I get that a lot. These fools will weave in and out of lanes, passing everyone, only to be the first one to make it to the red light.

I laughed out loud on that one! It's so funny and I've seen that happen so often. In such a hurry to only end up in the same place. Hahaha!
Was it worth it? I mean, really, was it worth all that dodging traffic and speeding only to land at that red light as I pull up right next to them. Dweebs!

I saw it tonight when I came upon it by accident. I even learned a few things about the film that I did not know before.
                      But I must
                      disagree
                      with you. I think it's
                      an excellent thriller
, a good first effort by Spielberg. And Dennis Weaver does a good job as the "everyman" protagonist.

I have seen it a couple times before but like you I also just happened to come across it.
Loved watching it again and love the humor and the way Sven inserts himself into freeze frames.
"OK you be Starsky and I'll be Hutch," with him sitting in the car!
I also like learning the trivia.
Like, I knew that there was a reflection of SS in the phone booth glass but never saw it until they pointed it out and how clever to have his name backwards to be a name on that car!
What would you do in that situation and you don't have a gun?
You know where he hid the car and took a nap?
I would have just turned around and gone the other way and gone back home.

First of all, I would have called the police. I wouldn't give a damn that I didn't have any so called
                          "proof".
Fuck that. If that did not resolve the situation, I would have turned around and gone home. No business meeting is worth getting killed for.

Did you see the part where David did try calling the police from the phone booth but the truck driver almost ran him over and smashed the booth to splinters?
Of course today this would not happen where you have a cell phone!
                            LOL
And I found it interesting how the truck driver blew his horn to give David time to not get run over.
I guess he wanted to kill him in the car to make it more worthwhile for him.
To feed his ego from the challenge and not be too easy.

I've never heard a bad word about it before, but a lot of 70s TV movies have a cult following as you said. I thought Let's Scare Jessica to Death was ridiculous and boring as hell though. I think nostalgia has a lot to do with people enjoying these oldies.

I'm surprised you don't like it. It was written by Richard Matheson who wrote many of the classic Twilight Zone episodes and it has a very Twilight Zone look and feel to it. It even stars Dennis Weaver who was in the classic TZ episode "Shadowplay". I love it for the suspense and Weaver's over the top performance. I always try to figure out who the psycho truck driver is during the scene in the diner (of course, he's probably none of those guys).
what a boring and dry (no pun intended) movie.
It's typical 70's slowburn horror. It's slow going at first but builds on suspense as the film progresses.

He wasn't because the truck drives off with Dave watching from the Diner and we did not see anyone from the diner get into the truck.
I liked how we never saw the drivers face and just body parts like a leg or an arm here and there.
I would have turned around and gone home first chance I got.
Of course Dave goes in the same direction of the truck so we can have a movie.

Imagine having a cat and mouse movie like this but the mouse just goes back to the hole with no final violent end for the cat as it always is.

This felt like the foundation for Jeepers Creepers.
It's miles better (no pun intended) than Jeepers Creepers! And I actually like Jeepers Creepers.
