Diana died while John Travolta was making Saturday Night Fever.
The scene in SNF when he's riding the subway all down and depressed was his real feelings, his lover Diana had just died of cancer. -

Man. I was gonna post about the whole creepyness about Travolta and Hyland dating and playing mother son. I wonder if John wanted to really kiss his mom(Hyland) hard in some of those scenes. They were like 19 years apart, but seemed to really care for each other and seeing how she died of cancer, its a tragic end to storybook romance. Still creepy though.
Woody allen should hire Soon Yee for a future project as a love interet.

I am amazed at the comments about Travolta dating an older woman - creepy? They were actors playing mother and son so what is the problem? It is obviously the age difference at issue and it is a shame that people would have a problem with that. What is disgusting is that somehow this is warped into an Oedipus/Electra complex being compared to Allen's incestuous relationship with his actual, adopted daughter; this is an incredibly faulty analogy.

If I remember correctly, they met during the filming of this movie.
I don't understand why anyone would think the two of them being in love with one another is creepy. Anyone that thinks that obviously has never really been in love themself. I hope you grow up and fall in love one day, the real thing too, not the superficial thing. -

I think people are thinking it's creepy because of the age difference of John and Diana, not to mention they were playing characters who were mother and son. I can understand how that would be a little creepy.

Age difference doesn't count, what counts is love. Love doesn't know age difference. Love doesn't know frontiers either. There's nothing creepy about john travolta loving an older woman. I fell in love with an older woman too, so what, what's the deal? why are you guys so prejudiced about something so natural.

i am totally interested in women , not girls, from about age 30 to 43 , it doesn't matter me. I think to get what i want which is a fufilling lasting relationship you need to find women who also want that as well. I'ts not gross or sick. It's me not being particularly impressed by immature girls my own age who i cant i even have a conversation about yeats , or kipling with, without her going "huh?" "what? whos that". Plus not many guys like me are family oriented at this age but i happen to be, settling down with a women who's not just physically appealing but emotionally and mentally, has to be the ultimate package.

In an old Rolling Stone article Travolta claimed he only took the role in Saturday Night Fever after Diana Hyland convinced him to. He didn't believe he could do it until she made him see he was perfect for the role

Not to defend him but Woody Allen didn't adopt Soon Yi. She is Mia Farrow's adopted daughter and he wasn't even married to her, so she wasn't even his stepdaughter or anything. That's why there has never been any legal problems with their relationship (marriage). He's still a creep of course!

The John Travolta-Diana Hyland romance is one of the saddest stories in Hollywood folklore. She did die while he was making SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER and Travolta has often mentioned that during the scene by the Brooklyn Bridge with Stephanie, he is thinking of Diana when his eye well up with water. It should also be mentioned that after her death, Hyland won an Emmy for her performance in THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE and Travolta accepted the award for her and was barely able to keep from breaking down onstageI remember it like it was yesterday. Very touching moment.

I find it sad. I read some of his biographies, and he really did love her. I am really sad that she is not alive today.
About the emmys: can someone please find me a video clip of it? I would like to see it.
I MET JOHN TRAVOLTA ON 9/13/07 AT 5:45PM!!!!!!!!!!
